DH I or II?
Re: Die Happy I or II?
since we're comparing riffs...
when I started playing Hit the Lights above, I thought I was listening to The Crucified
compare the intro to these tracks:

I can't take full credit for that. Pethead started the trend.Ammocas wrote:^^^ I am liking my post

I am nothing if not a trend-setter.

Through thing. The main difference between the songs, though, is that the Die Happy Singer could sing properly.TZ75 wrote:strangerhoncho wrote:Nah. Sounds more like the first riff in Holy Wars.TZ75 wrote:strangerhoncho wrote:TZ75 wrote:MagnusPrime wrote:TZ75 wrote:MagnusPrime wrote:The first one since it's closer to USPM. Kind of a bluesier take on Metal Church. Seems to have a slight Trouble influence as well.
The first one is like Sabbath and TBA/Metallica mixed with Jake E. Lee’s Badlands.
Incorrect. My take is better.
Except the Badlands influence. I can hear that.
Everything that is heavy and bluesy is influenced by Sabbath. There is a blatant Metallica influence on the song Cage!
I know I’m right about Badlands.
That Cage riff is straight up Megadeth, not Metallica.
I disagree.
It’s very similar to Metallica’s bouncy riff on “Hit the Lights”. Listen at the 34 second mark! It’s total Metallica! Hetfield wrote it.
Nope. The rhythm pattern is totally different (plus Holy Wars is more tight and precise). Cage has a “bounce” to it like Metallica and Deliverance.

Re: Die Happy I or II?
For me, DH II is far superior! The addition of Greg Chaisson on bass took the band in a different direction with the thrashy guitar tones but the bluesy feel to the riffs. That made them stand out to me.
The first one was okay but was never a big player for me. I have played DH II bazillions of times.
