The first one is like Sabbath and TBA/Metallica mixed with Jake E. Lee’s Badlands.

One song has almost the exact same riff as Enter Sandman.

Incorrect. My take is better.
Except the Badlands influence. I can hear that.

Re: Die Happy I or II?
Yes exactly. And a whole bunch of other Black Album pseudo riffage. That was the metal trend at the time. Metallica hit a winning formula, and a whole bunch of thrash bands followed their lead into more watered down thrash, rock terrain.TZ75 wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Very Black album influenced. Everything that is heavy and bluesy is influenced by Sabbath. There is a blatant Metallica influence on the song Cage!
I know I’m right about Badlands.

Yeah, same. I listened to these albums like crazy back in the day, but just because of my rabid fondness for VR. The vocals were tolerable for me back then, but listening now for the first time in 20 years, I find them too irritating. Some of the riffs on the first album are reminiscent enough at times to VR, so that's my preference by far. The second one is way too bluesy hard rock for my tastes these days.Dustofyears wrote:To be fair, the music is good, it's just the vocals that ruin it for me. I remember when I owned both those albums I always wished there was a different vocalist just couldn't handle it and for that reason hardly ever listened to them. Music is good though.

That Cage riff is straight up Megadeth, not Metallica.

I disagree.
It’s very similar to Metallica’s bouncy riff on “Hit the Lights”. Listen at the 34 second mark! It’s total Metallica! Hetfield wrote it.

Metallica Black album: 1991
Megadeth last thrash album RIP 1990: Countdown to extinction 1992
Vengeance Rising Once Dead 1990: Die happy's debut 1992
TQT last thrash album POD 92: Vanishing 1993
Deliverance last thrash album Stay 92: Learn 1993
Also what was the song from Die Happy with the almost direct rip off of the enter sand man intro... I know I didn't imagine that! It's there somewhere...

Intro and main verse riffs and the stabs in this awful, horrendous song...sound familiar... It's been so long since I've listen to this album I thought maybe I had imagined a false memory... I had not! It sounds like a combo of Enter sandman intro sped up mixed with Crucified's mind bender riff which had also just come out in 1991, the same year as the Black album...least Roger stayed true to his roots. Good ol' Rogey!

RIP wasn't Megadeth's last thrash album, I consider CTE thrash actually.Dustofyears wrote:There's a bit of all sorts in it to be fair. But the intention behind all those thrash bands now turned heavy rock with thrash elements type albums, was due to the black album. Megadeth, Die happy, TQT, Deliverance and probably more besides, all the sudden went from finishing their final thrash album in 1990 or 92, the came out with their black albums in their style.

This is just Enter Sandman with acoustic intro and an intro solo added.Dustofyears wrote:I can hear both Metallica and Rust in Peace In that cage song. You're both right. Anyway...

You ask most metal heads if CTE is a thrash album and you'll get laughed at.

Yep. And also Mind bender. Both of which came out a year before this terrible tune.

It's not watered down all the way to hard rock. It's still very much metal. It's not less heavy it's just less thrashy. Sad But True is Metallica's second heaviest song.Dustofyears wrote:It has thrash elements, I am not disputing that. Ashes in your mouth~!!! But so does the black album, Holier than thou!!! etc. So does die happy, Learn, vanishing lessons etc, but they are watered down thrash into the heavy rock realm while maintaining some of their former thrash elements, unlike all those bands previous efforts which was thrash. We have Metallica to thank for that as I made clear above (I hope).
