Hair Metal is gold

Okay, I've said hair metal is overrated before, but I have to admit, it's gold.

Because gold, despite being metal, is softer than many rocks

Hair metal is overrated... but without it we wouldn't get thrash soooo...

I agree with that. Holy Soldier is my favorite hair band, but they're much softer than Stryper or Whitecross. They just have such great hooks.

Ok, I'm just kidding. Aside from Deth being great in both ways, talent does contribute a lot. And most hair metal is objectively better than most nu metal, it just doesn't pump me up as much... but then again neither does thrash, even though I prefer thrash overall easily.

Hair metal is really good... when it's not cheesy, which most hm bands are. But the thing about hm doesn't pump you up as much as Nu, that's because Nu is designed to pump you up. But without hair we don't get thrash, which is the best thing hair metal ever did.

Hair metal's popularity arose around the same time as thrash came on the scene. Quiet Riot's Metal Health, one of the early big hair metal albums, came out the same year as Kill 'Em All and Show No Mercy.

Well thrash bands developed the thrash sound because they thought hair metal wasn't real metal, so they played real metal.

That's not why thrash bands started. They were heavily influenced by NWOBHM like Diamond Head etc. and with Venom playing as fast as they could others started incorporating speed into it.
And nu metal is as cheesy as hair metal.

So, Hair Metal is fake Metal? Tell that to all the bands that played in L.A. on the strip. Yeah, ok,  it was all fake…not real…Fugazi…haha!

I will take any Hair Metal band full of Cheez Whiz over any nu metal band. Bring on the cheez!

Hair metal was my introduction to metal in general. Lots of cool riffs, melodies and guitar solos!

If it jams, it jams!

Ratt, Dokken, Motley Crue, L.A. Guns and Skid Row were great. 

I also loved the guitar playing on the first Winger album.

Why I don’t like the label “hair” Metal, although I use it. Glam is also a tricky label, because 70s glam and 80s glam are quite different.

But I think a lot of people would agree that Metal Health helped make the sound mainstream that a lot of recognizable hair bands followed.

That being said, I don’t particularly care how anyone categorizes Metal Health. My main point was that thrash developed too early to be a reaction to hair metal.
