Top Five Favorite Styx Albums
I have been a Styx fan since the early 1980s. I count them among my favorite bands. The band is still going strong and releasing great new music. Here is my top five favorite albums by Styx.

I agree with your takes on The Grand Illusion and Pieces Of Eight.
Did not care for Kilroy Was Here, and haven't heard Edge Of The Century or The Mission.
From what you wrote, I would be more interested in checking out The Mission first....

I think you will enjoy The Mission. Here is one of the highlights of the album.Constantine wrote:I agree with your takes on The Grand Illusion and Pieces Of Eight.

I am a Styx fan who is not crazy about Paradise Theater. I love the songs Rockin' The Paradise, The Best Of Times and Snowblind. The rest of the album I could take or leave, just OK songs.Pethead wrote:I pretty much just stick to my top 3:

I love this band!
The first 3 are pretty good heavy prog albums. I actually like The Serpent Is Rising more than most people seem to.
Their weakest is probably Man Of Miracles.
Equinox is pretty good.
Everything from Crystal Ball thru Paradise Theater is gold.
Kilroy is ok.
Edge Of The Century, Brave New World and Cyclorama have their moments.
The Mission is indeed excellent and the best they've done since their 76-81 heydey.
Haven't heard the more recent stuff yet. Need to rectify that.

Although I’ve never actually listened to a Styx album all the way through, I quite like most of their songs I’ve heard (especially Suite Madame Blue, Foolin’ Yourself, and Come Sail Away). The vocalist reminds me a lot of Rush’s vocalist (which is a good thing imo)

Dennis DeYoung (main vocalist/keyboardist of their classic era) sounds a lot like Michael Sweet from Stryper.

Crash Of The Crown is worth checking out. Not quite The Mission but they are proving they aren't just a nostalgia act.

You are the first person that I have ever heard state that Dennis DeYoung and Geddy Lee sound similar. Give this song a try.seth wrote:Although I’ve never actually listened to a Styx album all the way through, I quite like most of their songs I’ve heard (especially Suite Madame Blue, Foolin’ Yourself, and Come Sail Away).
