Your favorite underrated albums.
Albums that could be considered cult classics… but overall they don’t get the love they deserve.
Megadeth - So Far, So Good… So What!
Testament - Souls of Black
Annihilator - Never, Neverland
Coroner - Mental Vortex
Judas Priest - Ram it Down

Megadeth - The System Has Failed and United Abominations
There's more but I just went with my four favorite bands for right now

Re: Your favorite underrated albums.
A few that come to mind:
Alcest - Shelter. They went full post-rock on this album which upset a lot of fans, but I think it's a really wonderful release. Their previous album Les Voyages de L'Ame is pretty underrated too and among my favorites of theirs.
Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death. I may be a bit biased because I discovered Iron Maiden shortly before this album was released so it was one of my first of theirs. But while it's got some filler (as all Maiden albums do...), overall I think it's a very strong release.
Kreyson - Navrat Krale. Since only their first two albums got English versions released, their other material in the Czech language is often overlooked - which is really unfortunate because this album of theirs in particular is really excellent IMO!
Shaman - Reason. Following their debut Ritual which is a power metal masterpiece, Reason is much more somber album with very little power metal to it. Instead, it's more heavy metal with a hard rock edge. But if you don't compare it to Ritual, it stands on its own as a very solid album.
Sonata Arctica - Unia. Sonata Arctica changed their style some to be more melodic metal than purely power metal. While I too prefer their power metal stuff, Unia is a very good album with some great songs on it.
Theocracy - Theocracy. Discussed a million times on this forum, but I like their debut more than ATWB and GS, and probably tied with Mosaic.
Virgin Black - Elegant... And Dying. This album often gets eclipsed by what came before and after it, but it's really solid and has great atmosphere.

Theocracy's debut has their best choruses.

ˆ I'll echo Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity. There is some seriously great songwriting and perhaps more emotion in the lyrics and delivery than many of their albums.
My knowledge is not nearly as diverse as most of yours. However, I think there's a few here:
Stryper - Reborn
Ken Tamplin - Soul Survivor
Circle of Dust - Disengage

Reborn is a good choice, some really good riffs there.
As far as Christian hair metal band's later hard rock albums, Whitecross - Equilibrium is pretty underrated.

Superjuice wrote:Vicious Rumors - Word of Mouth (A rarely heard VR album that went under-the-radar because of limited marketing and distribution after being dropped from Atlantic. Too bad, mostly full of great songs)
Blackball - Super Heavy Dreamscape (Nice combo of funk and heaviness, quite a unique sound)
Barren Cross - Rattle Your Cage (Originally blew this one off because of the awful cover art, but it had a great updated sound without losing their heaviness and metal edge. Tough songs, but it was dismissed by the next generation of high schoolers and college kids for being that 'old 80's metal band')
Dream Theater - Falling Into Infinity (Talked about this a lot in the past - the epics take a long time to sink in, Peruvian Skies is untouchable, and you can skip the ballads).
Chastain - For Those Who Dare (90's metal with an 80's vibe, plus there's experimental approach to the production and it works (for me), maybe not for everybody.
Fates Warning - Still Life (One of the few live albums which sounds better than the studio versions. And its cool to hear Ray Alder sing the old stuff. John Arch super-fans need not apply)
Leatherwolf - World Asylum (Latter day USPM which delivers the goods just like their heyday)
Silage - Vegas Car Chasers (Brilliant pop alt-rock with a touch of ska)
Pax217 - Engage (Just as good as the debut which got a lot of fanfare, but this one went unnoticed probably because rapcore was on the way out)
Lightmare - The Fool (Seventh Avenue devottees probably already dig this, but I included it just for new perusers. This is real European Power Metal.)
Wyzards - Final Catastrophe (Great prog metal from the Glass Hammer guys that nobody seems to know about)
Dark Water - Human (best prog metal since Octavarium in my book. Outstanding production and performances)
