Christian vs. Secular
I have a challenge for everyone. How many of these secular bands can you find a Christian band that sounds similar?
Metallica
Megadeth
Dream Theater
Dragon Force
Slayer
U2
The Killers
Muse
Audioslave
Rage Against The Machine(This one will be really hard)
Bring Me The Horizon(old)
Tool
Pantera
Meshuggah
Have at it!

Rage Against the Machine is probably the easiest one to match on the list, a lot of Thousand Foot Krutch songs sound quite similar (for example Rhime Animal, Light Up the Sky)
From the few Dragonforce songs I know, Theocracy is probably the most similar
For the rest that I know on the list, can’t think of a Christian band that sounds super similar

Re: Christian vs. Secular
There have been threads in the past trying to match some of these bands.
The only Christian band similar to Tool was deemed to be a band called Sacred.
They put out an album called "Ashes To Ascension" in 2013.

I'd say early Deliverance is heavier than Metallica, but other than that it's pretty similar.mothy wrote:Slayer: Hating Evil, Demolish, 1st Living Sacrifice

Try the first couple Eternal Decision albums for a Metallica sound.

Eternal Decision’s vocals are a lot like Papa Het, but the music is much closer to Pantera.

Not saying your not correct but some early interviews with Jimmy he admits to ripping off riffs from Metallica thus the comparison.StevenCressler wrote:I'd say early Deliverance is heavier than Metallica, but other than that it's pretty similar.mothy wrote:Slayer: Hating Evil, Demolish, 1st Living Sacrifice

Re: Christian vs. Secular
Yeah there's definitely similarities. What A Joke is a lot more extreme, but the first two are basically Metallica with slightly crunchier guitars and rougher vocals (and Christian lyrics of course).mothy wrote:Not saying your not correct but some early interviews with Jimmy he admits to ripping off riffs from Metallica thus the comparison.StevenCressler wrote:I'd say early Deliverance is heavier than Metallica, but other than that it's pretty similar.mothy wrote:Slayer: Hating Evil, Demolish, 1st Living Sacrifice

No Innocent Victim was similar to Pro-Pain. Especially the vocals.

Re: Christian vs. Secular
Jimmy wrote a story around here (or maybe it was the now defunct boards) where he met a pre-fame James Hetfield and James gave him a freshly pressed copy of KEA when Jimmy was just 14. Jimmy was going after Jame's sister and ran into Hetfield at the house. She told him Jimmy was in a band, so James gave him a copy. I'm sure it had a heavy influence on him.mothy wrote:Not saying your not correct but some early interviews with Jimmy he admits to ripping off riffs from Metallica thus the comparison.StevenCressler wrote:I'd say early Deliverance is heavier than Metallica, but other than that it's pretty similar.mothy wrote:Slay

Chevelle and Stavesacre were often compared to Tool. Eventually Stavesacre went in a different direction and Chevelle did their own thing, but neither ever sounded mechanical as Tool and didn't use drum triggers.
Also, Eloi did the groove metal Pantera-thing pretty much down pat.

Amazed no one has mentioned Ritual Servant for Metallica/Slayer
You might? like Soulchasm if you like Tool.

Deliverance's vocals are very different to Metallica's. And Deliverance only sounds like Kill 'Em All and some of Ride The Lightning. I still love them though.mothy wrote:Slayer: Hating Evil, Demolish, 1st Living Sacrifice

Correct They sound similar but not a clone, and those are their best 2 albums anyhow.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:Deliverance's vocals are very different to Metallica's. I don't think I would agree that those are the best two Metallica albums. I would put Death Magnetic and 72 Seasons above Kill 'Em All honestly. But ...And Justice For All is def my fav 'Tallica album.mothy wrote:Correct They sound similar but not a clone, and those are their best 2 albums anyhow.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:Deliverance's vocals are very different to Metallica's. I respect KEA more than I actually enjoy it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album and it was essential for my favorite genre. But I really get stoked for Metallica starting with RtL. AJfA is my favorite, followed by MoP. I also put TBA and DM over KEA in terms of my listening preferences.
