A lot of Lars’ stuff uses hi-hat extensively. Sad but True is a good example.

He’s overqualified for the Police. They were lucky to have him.

Hmm... I'm not a Police or sting fan, but Andy Summers is no slug and neither is Sting for what they do, but I know you what mean Stewart has some wicked drum chops, he's one of those precise, smooth and super clean players, what drummers call "a pretty drummer". Pretty much what session players are.TZ75 wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Yep he is.TZ75 wrote:Dustofyears wrote:Just about everything from the Police.

This thread has a brother, but its practically useless since all the suggestions were erased:

Wow! What a coincidence.
I started my thread because every time I hear that song from Blondie, I’m amazed how much hi-hat the drummer is doing. I don’t know the technical term… but he’s doing that open/close thing that makes it ring out and then a controlled muting. The guy in the video I posted uses it.

I guess I exaggerated a bit…
You’re right! Andy Summers is a talented guitarist. After all, he came up with some amazing chords like the ones in Every Breath. It requires some finger stretching to perform. He’s mostly viewed as a simple player, but some of his chords are very jazz oriented. Kind of like Alan Holdsworth (before he got crazy complicated).
In addition, Sting is no slouch on the bass. And his voice is somewhat iconic.

I believe Sting said in an interview that it came down to two guitarists in the audition process and Andy Summers knew more exotic chords, so he got the gig.
