Distorted bass heavy music
Hello, I am looking for Christian metal bands with a crushing bass tone, similar to Adam Nolly from Periphery or Jon Stockman from karnivool, ideally someone who uses darkglass pedals and a Dingwall bass. I love that sound a lot and would be pretty happy if I can find Christain bands who use the sound too
Genre is secondary to this. But I prefer screaming vocals to clean

Re: Distorted bass heavy music
I wish I could be of help, but I can't think of anything other than the first Jet Circus album. They had a lot of intentional buzz on their bass back then. However, they definitely had a cleaner vocal sound than you are looking for.
As for myself, I don't mind some effects sometimes on a bass, but I prefer a cleaner tone for bass personally. While I do play guitar, I am primarily a bass player. I have experimented with different effects, but I keep coming back to a cleaner tone. I have even embraced using more high end when I play as it keeps the band's sound cleaner and I cut through better both live and in recordings this way. But, that's just me.
I hope you find something like you want or can at least inspire someone else to give it a shot.

Tourniquet often used a distorted bass sound.

Thanks alldatndensum, I'm down if even they're just a skillful player to be honest. But I am trynna find some bands to replace the non Christain bands I used to listen to. I love the sound of distorted bass (it usually has a clean signal blended in to stay heavy). I'll check out the band you recommended. Maybe it will scratch an itch I never knew I had
Thanks pethead I'll check em out. Edit: I'm enjoying the music a lot. Killer bass tone. This band is aggressive sounding, I dig it

Both bands aren't quite what I had in mind, but you know what? They're killer sounding anyway. I dig em a lot. I'm still open to hearing more cleanly dengle dengle bass tones, but these are great sounding bands

In case anyone else is interested, I found one. They are called Bloodlines. Admittedly the bass could be mixed louder, but it sounds like the bass sound I'm looking to hear, at least on some songs

The first Galactic Cowboys album has a massive distorted bass sound.

Galactic Cowboys (NOT YOUR FAVORITE BAND, TZ!) is a good answer.
Monty has always had a fairly obnoxious bass tone. Kind of like Chris Squire on steroids.
Dug Pinnick from King's X often uses a similar tone as well.

You’re welcome!
But keep in mind that only their first album has that particular bass sound. The other albums have all kinds of different tones. Some conventional, others thicker with distortion.
Here’s another heavy bass tune…

I been checking out King X. Pretty good. What style of music is this? Doesn't really seem like metal, but it's good musicMagnusPrime wrote:Galactic Cowboys (NOT YOUR FAVORITE BAND, TZ!) is a good answer.

Prog metal/hard rock. Their albums up through Dogman are epic.

You know, that's probably it. I gotta hear more before making the judge. I heard let it rain and made that judgement, but fade out almost has an Alice in chains sound to it, and they were pretty metal for a grunge bandPethead wrote:Prog metal/hard rock. Their albums up through Dogman are epic.

I'm not sure if this is quite what you're looking for, but Jason of Becoming The Archetype has a solo project called Death Therapy. There are no guitars: only distorted bass (and drums and keys...).

Awesome! Enjoy! FYI each release of theirs is quite different. That's from their first album which is definitely the grooviest. I'd describe them as:
The Storm Before The Calm - the grooviest and most raw.
Voices - my favorite of theirs. IMO the most polished and "complete" sounding.
Dance Therapy... - a fun departure from their "signature sound" into video-game style music.
Melancholy Machines - not really much of any metal influence anymore and more rock. Not bad, but I do prefer their older stuff.

Honestly this is exactly what I was looking for. Been listening to a lot of their music, and it's very bass heavy. I dig it. Exactly what I wantedKerrick wrote:Awesome! Enjoy!
