Guilty pleasures Empty Guilty pleasures

Post by Victimesderegime Wed Aug 16, 2023 12:30 am

Just wondering what everyone’s guilty pleasure albums are. These are the albums that may not be in the top 10 best albums list. but somehow you just can’t get enough of them.
 Mine are

Philadelphia search and destroy
(love the album cover, love the music not every song is a keeper but this is a great album that I feel gets overlooked by some when talking about the 80’s white metal bands)

Rosannas raiders calling down fire
(This band somehow gets in my head at the least expected times, we are raiders is probably my fav on the album but some of the others are good as well. The album cover is also one of my favorites)

Force 3 warriors of the light
(This album lived in my CD player for a couple years great band with an amazing sound)

Lightforce mystical thieves
(I know I’m in the minority but I always enjoyed this over mortification. I know that’s a sin in some circles but the rawness of this album with its almost punk meets metal had me hooked from the beginning. if you haven’t giving this a listen stop what your doing and go listen now. )

Saint warriors of the Son
( I know the next two albums are better in many ways. The artwork and music are leaps ahead of this one. This one just has a special place for me that I can’t shake. I remember listening to this with my dad and pretending I was the in the band. What a dork I was! Anyway this album is great just like most of what Saint does. )

I don't like all those but wouldn't call them guilty pleasures. That would be more like ABBA.

Cranberries had some decent songs.
My wife likes Shane and it's actually alright, them and Turnpike Troubadours.
Nothing wrong with Swing of Death.
MJ? Ugh.

Sticking with Christian metal and rock (since I believe that is the question), there are a few albums I've liked over the years that are not especially popular or considered super-important to the genre, but I've just liked them for one reason or another:

- Nouveaux - Beginnings

- Ancient Prophecy - both albums

- Emerald - Armed For Battle

- Ordained Fate - Demo Anthology

- Sacrecy - s/t

Letter 7 - all 3 albums

- Mercy Rule - Overruled

- XIII Minutes - Obsessed

- Six Feet Deep - Struggle

- Strongarm - Atonement

Leaderdogs For The Blind - Lemonade

- 20/20 Blind - Never Far

- Fire Throne - Day Of Darkness…And Blackness

- Tempest - Annihilation of the Wicked demo  (not the Rowe bros. band)

- Watchmen - Generation

- Zaxas - s/t   (I consider this "Christian friendly," although Angelic Warlord lists it as a Christian release)

- Mercury Fang - both albums  (Released by Rivel Records but again, I consider them "Christian friendly")

There are others but I decided to just stick with these for now.

I can't see anything Christian being a guilty pleasure. Except maybe Rackets & Drapes...
My guilty pleasure is The Offspring--the angry songs.

Constantine,
Those Nouveaux and Six Feet Deep albums are really good.  My only complaint about Nouveaux is that it has too many ballads.

Eternal Decision. I've gone back and forth on liking them due to their cheesiness (being a Metallica knock-off) and so-so production quality.

I'm curious TOB what makes that a guilty pleasure for you?  It's bee a while since I've sampled any of their music but I don't recall that album sticking out in any way that I'd imagine it being categorized as such.

Let’s be honest, guys. There are some people you’d rather not tell that you like early Stryper like the Yellow and Black Attack and Soldiers Under Command. Getting into metal through thrash metal and being very against the whole hair metal thing at fist. Of course I love it now, but there is still something in my mind that tells me “you know this is cheesey and not cool” and then my heart has to respond “I know. I like it so shut up.”

My main guilty pleasures with Christian metal are bands whose lyrics are super cheesy. Such as “rock for the rock” or such things.

And let’s not forget: “HOW CAN YOU RUN WHEN YOU’RE HIT?!?! DON’T BE A HIT AND RUN!!!”

80s Christian glam rock/metal bands were all like:

"yeah we write cheesy lyrics...for the Lord!"

"yeah we put on women's makeup...for the Lord!"

"yeah we're about 3-to-5 years behind the secular scene...for the Lord!"
