CD Collectors: Any recommends for GOOD jewels cases for CD's? Empty CD Collectors: Any recommends for GOOD jewels cases for CD's?

I've picked up a few CD's from thrift stores and Ebay, and many times the cases need to be replaced.

HOWEVER....anyone with a collection probably knows that they do not make replacement cases like they used to.

The more "modern" ones are very thin.  They bend, scratch easily due to the coarser plastic, and are not molded all that well.

The older ones were thick, heavier, and smoother to open and close.  The newer ones also tend to have craze lines and flashing along the edges or middle.

I've tried a few brands but have not found any replacement cases like the old ones.

Any ideas?

Yeah, most of the ones I've been able to find are garbage as well.

Nothing good so far.  I started buying cheap lots of old crappy CD's at flea markets, tag sales, or Craigslist just to get the older cases.  Then I swap out the cases and either trade or donate the CD's I don't want.

It's not a great strategy though, and it ends up being more headache than it is worth. Sometimes the otherwise good cases turn out to have large stickers or hidden cracks or broken spindles.  Then there is the hassle of washing cases that stink heavily of perfume (happens more often than you'd realize).  Not to mention the time spent trading or donating them.

So I'm still looking too.....

I did something similar at a community garage sale.  I purchased about a dozen cds for an average of like 50 cents a piece.  I threw away the cds and inserts and used the cases to replace my most damaged ones.

And washing the moldy and cigarette smelling cases isn't fun.

Don't worry, most of what I threw away was Ann Murray and Garth Brooks type stuff.

I've still got a pile of junk CD's to get rid of. We're talking Alicia Keys, Fugees, L.L. Cool J, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, Moby, Dave Matthews, and others. I kept Seal, The Cranberries, and a few others that I'll actually listen to.

Haven't had much in the way of cigarette smoke or mold, but the perfume....oh man, it does not come off if you just wipe the CD with rubbing alcohol (which is what I usually do, it works great for most dirt, dust, fingerprints, and grime).  Got to hand wash those.

I've bought way too many books and CD's online that end up reeking of cheap perfume, like it was bathed in it.
So now I ask first before buying to try to weed that stuff out.

not that I've looked much but I bought cases from ULINE 6 years ago.

my nitpick is where the door(?) and the tray meet when closed they're not flush,
the tray is (what I would call) significantly higher. I would be satisfied with them if
not for that one issue.

that said, definitely the best I've found and pretty close to the heft of the cases
back in the day...at least at the time I bought them...
