I guess the truth really does offend.

I agree. There are a few songs that I like. I love hating evil, white throne and burn but after that it's just filler for me no disrespect meant for the hardcore fans but Mortification and Tourniquet where so much better musically and lyricallyPethead wrote:Man, so much attention for a good, but overrated album .

Yeah I agree. *YAWN*
there aren't any unreleased songs unless you count the "Contract" or the "Wailing" and those were never professionally recorded or demoed (as far as I know).... I had copies of those songs on an audience recorded live bootleg ages ago but the quality was awful
Doug Thieme told me those were the only recorded versions he knew of too and they used it to help him remember how to play the Contract
maybe they'll tack on the "once dead" reunion show as a bonus disk
but yeah.... how could the possible re-issue it AGAIN?? What's the point??

I love those bands but I'm not so sure their music is so much better. Maybe it's just different. I have said many times on this board that Human Sacrifice is my favorite record ever, so I may be biased, but I think some of how awesome the music on HS is may be lost in the raw, unpolished mix. And, at the same time, I love the mix because ... it is raw and unpolished, at least that's how I have always heard it...
To me the appeal of HS is much more than just the music and lyrics.
Timing -- when HS came out it was certainly the heaviest thing on the planet put out by men who boldly claimed Christ. It was awe-inspiring that there were Christians playing music this heavy and unashamedly proclaiming Christ and him crucified.
Coverart -- simple, powerful. impactful.
Logo (pre Rising) -- one of the best ever
Title -- the use of the term "Human Sacrifice", which normally immediately has a negative connotation, to refer to Christ taking to the cross for the sin of the world. The greatest tragedy and the greatest triumph all in one.
Description -- of the crucifixion on the back of the record -- gut-wrenching.
Music -- I could never do it justice, read RDM's descriptions on Facebook of how they made the music...amazing
Lyrics -- maybe not as good as others and probably a bit cheesy at times but certainly bold. Scripture references galore.
Band -- these guys coming together when they did, doing what they did, was the perfect metal storm. Right time, right place, right...everything.
Roger Martinez -- love him or hate him, back in the day, Roger was charismatic and well spoken. He was a fascinating character. On stage, he had stage presence in spades.
Live Shows -- though I unfortunately never saw them live, the recorded shows I've seen from that era are mesmerizing. The band's command of the stage and the stage presence of each member...again, mezmerizing.
Aura (of the record and the band) -- fascinating and inexplicable
All that said, I also wonder if age of the listener is a factor. I was 20 years old when this record came out. Young and impressionable. Would it have affected me the same way if it came out today? when I'm 55? I love this record so much, it pains me to say, but I doubt it would hit me the same way today.

Yes, I combined two different sayings, but they strangely apply very well.

Re: Vengeance - Human Sacrifice 35th Anniversary
This release was the first of it's kind and in an era when metal ruled the air waves too (that's radio for you youngins). They were the pioneers in a genre that didn't exist yet and this is THE album.
Keep in mind Deliverance debut is a year away, Tourniquet is 2 years away, Believer 1 year away and Mort is 3 years.
It isn't the most polished, or have the best musicians, but Beeman had a vision to spread Gods word through a group of young guys that would change the music scene for years to come.
Yes I'm biased because it left a lasting impression on me as a teen but all that aside this album is a one if a kind in christian metal.
With all that said.....I don't think we need ANOTHER re-issue.

I'm with crucifyd and mothy. I love this album, but another reissue is excessive. I'd rather they keep one reissue in print with additional pressings. They won't though. "$$$" as BaleMaster put it.
I also agree with Pethead that labels like Roxx and Girder are really helping keep the classics affordable. I'd just rather see them focus on new stuff, not something they've already done repeatedly.
