Metallica - 72 Seasons
Metallica - 72 Seasons
I really think most metalheads would be happy with this album if not comparing it to decades old classics.

After only 2 listens the songs were getting stuck in my head.
"Chasing Light" is probably my favorite right now. That main classical-influenced riff reminds me of Kirkpatrick.
I love the harmony guitar-work on "Inamorata".
Good album.

Chasing Light and Lux Aeterna are vying for my favorite.MagnusPrime wrote:It's basically a more aggressive form of their 90s output.

Over 40 years of banging hard. Incredible.
About the title track
On November 28, 2022, Hetfield commented on the album's title:
72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told 'who we are' by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.

Too Far Gone has an obvious Diamond Head throwback riff.

I guess I’ve become accustomed to blandness. I’m still waiting for any band to wake me up from my slumber. At least I had the pleasure to experience the prime offerings of the late 80’s and early 90’s. When hair-metal, thrash, alternative and death metal all co-existed. What a time to be alive! Now everything is old and regurgitated.

Nah man I'm mainly referring to people who live oblivious of music besides what's on the local rock station, where I'm sure the new Metallica is being rotated on a constant basis.TZ75 wrote:Guilty as charged!

No worries. I was partially being sarcastic. Although the last part was true!

The best parts are Darkness chorus, Light's riffing, and #1 Mirrors harmony/solo section.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:I love this album. James' vocals are arguably the best they've ever been, Rob's bass is amazing, the production is the best out of all their stuff, Kirk's solos are pretty good. They're not amazing but not bad. Inamorata is amazing. Too Far Gone?'s chorus is incredible.
Also, look closely too the lyrics to Chasing Light... seems similar to the Unforgiven... could this be the conclusion? Or, as I call it, "The Forgiven"?
Re: Metallica - 72 Seasons
It could be. 72S seems to be calling back to previous stuff quite a bit. Mirrors has the line "Broken, Beat, and Scarred" and is even sung the same way it's sung in the song from DMStevenCressler wrote:The best parts are Darkness chorus, Light's riffing, and #1 Mirrors harmony/solo section.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:I love this album.
