All so pretty- What moves you
What's some of the prettiest moments in metal you've ever heard or that you personally just love. One of my all time favorite melancholic and pretty parts on a metal record would be when those volume swells sweep in like waves of forlorn memories on To Live is to Die and then that real pretty Am classical picking guitar chimes in. It's beautiful. I know there's more, but I wanna see what yours is. Let's see what moves you in those softer moments within the heavy and or fast world of metal.

1) The Spirit Carries on by Dream Theater, especially the live version with the full black ladies choir. New Age theology should NOT move me to tears, but the whole thing is so beautiful. So I just change a few of the lyrics and make it Christian!
2) Beautiful melodies that sing over top of quiet parts contrasted with blisteringly heavy parts. Examples: From Darkness to Light Pt. 1 (Narnia), Bethlehem (Theocracy), The Hardest Part of Letting Go...Sealed With a Kiss (Megadeth).

Too many for me to list them all! I'd be here for quite a while LOL!
Let's see...
Lots of prog-metal bands with prominent keyboards.
Dream Theater are really good at this.
Certain parts of the epic "Six Degrees" suite.
Vacant from TOT.
Parts of the title track from Octavarium.
The Ministry Of Lost Souls from Systematic Chaos.
The Best Of Times from BC&SL.
The string section towards the end of Mother Gaia by Stratovarius.
Symphony X and Royal Hunt have tons of these moments for me as well!
Like I said, most of these for me seem to be by melodic/keyboard oriented prog-metal bands.
Other than that, The Beatles, Queen and especially Electric Light Orchestra all have very moving pieces of music.
There are lots more of course, but I don't want to be sitting here all day LOL!

I have always enjoyed long, sweeping melodies. Some really good songs that have had these as highlights recently have been "The Rain Of Your Love" by The Waymaker and "The War That Tore The Land" by Narnia.
