Modest Attraction "Divine Luxury" and "The Truth in Your Face"
Wow! I received this and The Truth In Your Face this past week from Girder's Black Friday sale and I'm mighty impressed with both. Divine Luxury is especially great.
As someone who adores Deep Purple and pre-1987 Whitesnake, I am digging this. I've always been really big on Ian Paice's drum work (hence my love for so much of early Whitesnake through Saints and Sinners) and Mick Nordstrom really nails the sound of his playing and Simeon Liljegren's smooth, warm bass work and the sweet Hammond organ and keys hit the sweet spot for me. The songs are outstanding, packed with energy, groove and come across unique despite having their influences on their sleeve. As I would never conflate DP and early Whitesnake, this band is its own thing.
I'm so glad these got rereleased and I was able to pick them up. I wouldn't expect everyone to love this sound but it is hard to say if I prefer Narnia's style over this style. Would have been cool if they somehow could have co-existed, especially since Mick splits vocal duties on a lot of Divine Luxury and Simeon (Christian's brother) has a similar voice to his brother.

I also hear elements of Europe in their sound.
All three of their albums were stellar. I wish they could have done more together.

I can understand the Europe comment. I loved the first three Europe albums and for me, if these bear similarity, I think it is most similar to Europe's debut. This just has the lighter upbeat feel that bears a more 70's sound. Even on their debut Europe's sound always had a cool epic feel that's missing here. Instrumentally there are some notable comparisons though. Both being Swedish it makes sense. Narnia of course follows in that way.alldatndensum wrote:I also hear elements of Europe in their sound.
