I've never heard that song, or the B-side.
Makes me wonder what else I missed from back then

Going way back in the time machine here....back to 1970.
Although this song can still be heard on classic rock stations.
Excellent song, very catchy and well-constructed.
To my knowledge this was their only hit, just like Looking Glass with "Brandy."

That's a terrible recording but a great song. Here's an earworm for you.

Cars is a classic song. Another really good one by him is "Down In The Park." It's very goth, very surreal sounding.

^Great song. Although can we really call The Smithereens a one-hit wonder?
I thought they also did well with "Blood & Roses" and "Behind The Wall Of Sleep."

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders!
Okay, technically Paperlace had 2 hits (the other was "Billy Don't Be A Hero") but this was the much cooler song, from the 70's:

When I lived in Germany as a young American kid in the mid 70's I had a few cassettes that I listened to until they nearly broke from over use. One of them was a Paper Lace's hits compilation. The Night Chicago Died was certainly one of my favorites (along with "Billy Don't Be A Hero" & "Hitchin a Ride")

Wait...I thought "Hitchin' a Ride" was by a band called Vanity Fair...? I was going to post that but I thought I'd post Paperlace first.

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders!
Okay, back to the 80's for this one (best decade for music IMO).
Red Rockers was a post punk/new wave band from New Orleans and this was their one hit. It's a cool song, and was enough to launch them onto a tour with the B-52's in 1983, and then with U2 in 1964. However, with no other hit songs, they sort of faded away.

That song fits the Simple Minds or Big Country sound of the day, I enjoy it.

Those are good comparisons actually - I hadn't even thought of them.Black Rider wrote:That song fits the Simple Minds or Big Country sound of the day, I enjoy it.
Even though this is their only single, the whole album is not bad actually...nothing too special, but solid.

That Sniff 'n The Tears song is one of the best ever.
This next song was big for awhile back in the late 70's - great power pop.
I even bought the sheet music for it:

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders!
Certainly NOT a One Hit Wonder, but, in the early days of music videos this was there one hit. Loved seeing this in 1982. I still like the song.

Re: Favorite One Hit Wonders!
This Heep song is a one hit wonder to me.
Uriah Heep was one of my fave 70's bands. I loved the David Byron era.
After that I did not pay attention to the band. I'm still especially abhorred
by the horrendous Abominog and Innocent Victim artwork.
Their 70's classics never got radio play as far as I know. But I have heard
'That's The Way...' hundreds of times, I just was not aware it was from my once
beloved band. Sounds nothing like the band I once loved. But I do like this song.
I see that it was not written by any band member. Heck half of the songs from
the album which this hit came from were not written by the band.

Oh man I haven't heard "That's The Way That It Is" in probably two decades, dang... great song.
Every time I hear the name Uriah Heep I always seem to think of their 70's classic song "Stealin'"
