MICHAEL SWEET to revise/remix/remaster (STRYPER's) Reborn
I stumbled across this on MS's FB page and I figured some people here might take interest. I look forward to hearing the results. MS post copied/pasted below:
I thought it would be really cool to add a few things (solos, high notes, guitars) and remix and remaster the original version of “Reborn”.
Kenny and I dive into that on Tuesday of this coming week. My question is: What do you want? Vinyl, cd’s, bundles? I plan to release a very limited run of all of the above but only if there’s a demand for it.
So, how many people are into this and if so, what do you want?
I plan to sign a certain number of cds and vinyl as well. Once we figure everything out we’ll let you all know what’s available and when.
I it’s always been a project that I wanted to do. The original version (solo) absolutely rocks and features Lou Spagnola on bass and Dërek Kërswill in drums. It’s amazing to hear this album in its original state and I know you will love it!!!!

Correction: This is not "Stryper" redoing the album, it is Michael. I asked him on FB about how Rob and Oz feel about it, and his response was "why should they feel anything about it?" I was surprised. It sounded like he hadn't even asked them. However, it was his solo album before the guys decided to make it a Stryper comeback album, so he feels perfectly fine revising it.
As for the effort itself, I'm all for it. I like Reborn. I don't love it, but there are definitely some choice tracks on that album. And perhaps even the "less than" tracks if given some additional TLC with solos, etc. could become great songs too.
I'm eager to hear it.

Thanks for correcting/clarifying--thread title has been corrected. I share your opinion of the album in its 2005 form, and my guess is that I'll enjoy the results of the redux. His output has headed more and more "metal" in the years since, so I'm curious to hear a version which might reflect that shift?Follower of Jesus wrote:Correction: This is not "Stryper" redoing the album, it is Michael. I wonder if it will be called Re-Reborn or Reborn Reborn? Ha!

Can only improve it so I'm good with him doing this, only three songs I thought were worth listening to but I haven't heard it in years. Maybe I'll give it a fresh spin.

So that explains why it's been pulled from Spotify.

I think this is a good idea. It was a giant let down for me.
People should stop thinking of bands as democracies. That's just a fantasy. ITRW it almost always comes down to 1 or 2 guys doing 90+% of the work.

I am very anxious to hear what Michael Sweet does with the songs because this was the one album that didn’t get many spins...it was shelved and easily forgotten.
BUT, I am hopeful it’ll go in a more heavier direction with added guitar solo’s and some tweaking.
I’m definitely going to get it on cd and maybe vinyl if offered.

Re: MICHAEL SWEET to revise/remix/remaster (STRYPER's) Reborn
I truly enjoyed the album, but even when it came out we all knew that it was Michael's solo project that they let the other guys play on to make it a Stryper disc.
I've said all along that this record never got the attention it deserved because it lacked certain elements from Stryper. It needed more harmonies. It needed more leads and especially the twin leads. Just adding those element back in will take this album to more of a fan favorite than it currently is.
Even if this doesn't see the light of day, I still like "Reborn". It may be more modern rock than traditional metal, but they did a great job with this.

I'm looking forward to this. I bought Reborn when it came out and while it lacked guitar solos there was some degree of lead guitar harmonies on it. I'm interested in hearing the new version and he is calling it Reborn Again.

I am a big fan of the Reborn album. Very curious to see what Michael does with the update. These last several years it has been a great time to be a fan of Stryper and Michael Sweet.

I'm very interested in this project. I really liked "Reborn" when it came out and listened to it a lot. Though I will say that it and "Murder By Pride" - while both decent releases - never really seemed like true Stryper albums. "No More Hell.." definitely put the band back on track though.

What if Michael quits doing this Project?xMetalMarkx wrote:Thanks for correcting/clarifying--thread title has been corrected.
