Philippe Giordana, keyboard player and band leader of the French symphonic power metal band Fairyland, has died at the age of 44.

I feel this one personally. He was one of the active forum members at the old Rhapsody forum and ended up on the same side of a split as I did, there was a lot of cameraderie among us. He was still very active composing and playing music, with the fifth Fairyland album well underway. Besides, I'm running a metal themed page on facebook and my fellow admin was very good friends with him.
I really feel sorry for his mother, two years ago her other son also died.

Anway, I'm gonna be sad for a while.

Not entirely, but somewhat parallel. It was a very active and international forum, and of course everyone was in shock about the split. There was an American guitar charlatan named Tom Hess that took Turilli's place in Rhapsody of Fire, and he made the forum extremely toxic with outside moderators and giving the wrong people too much moderating power. Also had lots of his students come in as "new members". Dude drove a wedge between two groups, and lots of regulars got banned for the slightest bit of criticism of both new band members, including the long-time webmaster for anything Luca Turilli related. Philippe was one of the first ones to get banned, I don't know for what exactly because I was away for a while at the time. But he wasn't one to mince words, which I liked about him.
Aformentioned webmaster made an unofficial forum for the banned ones and other personae non grata (including yours truly), which far outlasted the official RoF forums by the way. I think that was my favourite forum for quite some time, until I came across this board Anyway we had some good times there, and Phil was part of that.

Yep, I've told many people over the years to listen to early 70s Nazareth to get a blueprint of Brian Johnson's (of whom I'm also a big fan) vocals in AC/DC.

Dan's voice was made for hard rock/heavy metal. He will be sorely missed.

Although he was retired and lived to almost 80, it’s always sad to see a major talent pass away. His voice was ultra expressive and influential.
