Change in musical tastes due to isolation
Maybe I have actually had COVID-19 and one of the side effects is a change in musical tastes, but during this pandemic isolation I have found that I have very rarely wanted to listen to metal/hard rock, but found myself predominately listening to late 60's early 70's artists like The Doors, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix. What gives?

I've been listening to more jazz. I found a radio station on the HD-2 channel that plays all jazz and has no commercials. It is the college radio station. Some good stuff! Have also been playing records from the 50's and 60's at home.

Re: Change in musical tastes due to isolation
I sometimes get into certain moods and want to hear certain music. There's usually something behind it.
The Covid crisis on top of the current political environment can make one feel very uncertain, unstable, uncomfortable, frustrated. There is a sense of loss - loss of control, financial loss, etc. During this and other times, there may be a subconscious longing for earlier days when one felt safer. For me, 70's and 80's music represent a time in life when I felt relatively safer. Not that things were great, but I didn't feel the same degree of disappointment, frustration, loss, and angst that middle age and the current state of the country brings.

That's probably it.
I haven't had any changes to my taste in music, but I haven't lost my job or anything either.

I think you're right Constantine. There is something about the sound of those early classic rock artists which mellows me out, and I definitely need that at the moment.

Re: Change in musical tastes due to isolation
My musical taste has been changing over the last few months. Or expanding, rather.
I notice that there's not much new power metal that does it for me anymore (although there is some), and I'm spending more time seeking out music with more extreme elements at times. And when there's a new release I'm interested in, it's most of the time with folk influences. I honestly don't know what part the lockdown plays in this, but it's still peculiar.

On a somewhat related note, I can't write right now. My stuff has horror/sci-fi/thriller elements throughout...and we're getting that in spades on the daily news.

As long as you can use that art to shine light on following Jesus, it's okay. Just write and open your heart. That will come through your writing.
Re: Change in musical tastes due to isolation
I've noticed that my tastes often change with the seasons. The pandemic has not really affected my area very much, so I guess it's not on my mind as much. I've been enjoying some more summery vibes, so not as much black or death metal as usual. I typically go through phases with different genres so this is normal for me.
