Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
Nothing gets people riled up more than Tourniquet politics, except for actual American politics, but I'm not sure how many have seen this yet.
In the past couple weeks Gary Lenaire has made several Facebook posts indicating that he is making a concerted effort to gather several ex-Tourniquet members in order to make new music. Luke Easter has shared these posts, too, which seems to indicate that he's fully on-board with this. Here are two of Gary's posts:
How many of you think that this will actually happen? What would be your expectations for such a project?

As long as it's not a mudslinging whine-fest, I might be interested.

^ I agree, no mud slinging whiney lyrics...and hopefully the lyrical content would be Bible based or Faith based! If not, I wouldn’t buy this...I might give it a listen but definitely wouldn’t buy it unless the lyrics were positive and Bible based. ‘Stop The Bleeding’ was my favorite Tourniquet Album and a good example of Biblical lyrics.

Don't expect it to be biblically based as Gary as completely anti christian these days.

Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
The first three Tourniquet albums are my most favorite albums besides the first two Bloodgood and the first two Vengeance rising releases.
"Together we were greater than anyone of us" (Gary Lenaire)
I guess Ted is and was the driving force behind Tourniquet.
The others haven´t released consequently that much.
He also is maybe the most creative person of them.
But I love the metal attitude of Garys releases and the 2050 stuff was most exelent classic Tourniquet stuff as the "stop the bleeding" song and "live free". The guitars have this diversity and agressive playing that Tedsiquet is lacking. Guys vocals are still stellar also. If they are really working things out as a real band (not just two new songs as in the past) and the production would be on top they might be able to release the follow up to Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance.

I would love to hear a full-length Tourniquet-like release from Guy and Gary. I wouldn't be concerned if the lyrics weren't Bible-based, but I would be concerned if they reflected anti-Christian sentiment. The good news is that I don't think that kind of thing would happen if Guy was a key member.

Guy and Gary can't make a Tourniquet-like release without Ted.
Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
One of things I loved about Tourniquet were the lyrics (particularly on the first album). I'd love to hear Guy, Luke, Erik, Victor and Gary together again, but given Gary's beliefs, any new music won't be Christian. So, it's always great to hear new stuff (Guy and Gary on the new Stop The Bleeding song were both brilliant), but it won't have the same 'wow' factor for me.
Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
A similar case in point was the most recent Galactic Cowboys offering "Long Way Back From the Moon." Monty Colvin is no longer a believer, yet the band was able to pull off decent lyrics and incredible music. If this proposed ex-TQT lineup could hold to such a mindset, it might work.

I mostly agree with ToB but the first Echo Hollow had a couple songs that were TQT like so maybe they could have a few moments. Overall though, I don't see a whole album sounding like that early stuff.

Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
I’m totally into the idea of new music from Ex-Tourniquet members! And to be honest, most of my favorite songs from the classic albums were written by Gary Lenaire and Guy Ritter. So I know they can do it. Ted’s Tourniquet just does not sound anything like the original sound they had.
As far as lyrical content...
I’m certain Gary knows most of his fans are Christians, so I think he will keep that in mind. Not to mention that the other guys wouldn’t participate on a anti Christian album or project. Guy and Luke are definitely believers and I believe Victor is too. Not sure about Erik Mendez these days...

Of coarse they can! They could use a virtuoso drummer like Mike Portnoy. Don’t you know that Gary wrote a lot of the music and lyrics on the first three albums? He’s very versatile and talented like Ted.

Considering that they appear to have used a drum machine lately, I think they can't afford to hire Mike Portnoy. Virtuoso drummers don't grow on trees and don't come cheap.
Sorry, buy Gary is nowhere near as skilled as Ted.
I recognize that Ted's band unfortunately has been nowhere near as good as classic Tqt though. Neither camp I think is capable of recreating their glory days, no matter what talented studio musicians they hire. I think even if they reunited it wouldn't work. Look at how many other classic reunions have been duds. Bands in the old days used to rehearse all the time and take a long time to develop songs in rehearsal, at home, and live. Bands just don't devote that kindof time to music anymore and it shows. Hard to blame them considering they only earn scraps these days from their new songs.

Mike Portnoy is booked solid...doubtful if he can take on another engagement.TZ75 wrote:Temple of Blood wrote:Guy and Gary can't make a Tourniquet-like release without Ted.

David Husvik (Extol, Azusa) it's to me, the best option to fill the place of drummer on this reunion

Ted was much more than just a drummer though on those classic albums.
I don't think they will hire a drummer or have a "reunion" at all.
Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
I've lost interest in stuff like this. No way will it be like the original stuff. Simply because people change over time and everyone hypes it up way too much. The closest a band has gotten to their old roots and keeping it good in my opinion is Stryper.

What do you mean Ted is more skilled? He and Gary have different talents and strengths. Ted couldn’t sing to save his life! But Gary has a great thrash voice. I know Ted is known for interesting lyrics, but in my opinion Gary is no slouch either. Go back and see the credits on the first three albums...
Sure, Ted is decent on guitar (mostly for songwriting), but Gary is a real guitarist and his playing is refined and precise, just like Ted is as a drummer.

Ted: drums, studio guitar and lyrics...
Gary: lead & rhythm guitar, thrash vocals and lyrics...
Both guys are multi talented!
As far as a drummer for a reunion...
Look at the kid that Sepultura found! He was a no-name drummer in Brazil, but now he is praised by the metal community. There are a lot of great garage drummers waiting to be discovered! You don’t always need a big name guy like Portnoy. What the heck, just hire Lance Garvin or Jayson Sherlock for the recording. Deliverance already used Jayson as a hired gun, and Living Sacrifice isn’t doing much these days either. Both those guys are great! Even Jim Chaffin would be great!

I could not agree more.
A lot of reunions/lineups make a sort of sense on paper but in reality are pretty dismal.
If someone's last 4 albums have stunk then I just don't think in today's brutal, money-less music climate they're going to be turning out a great one. Sure, it can happen but I would definitely bet against it.
Re: Gary Lenaire, Guy Ritter, Luke Easter & Other Ex-Tourniquet Members Making Music Together?
They can call the new band "Expire Gladly" or something like that
(And Tourniquet can change to "Tourniquet Rising")
