Christian Blues rock?
Hey everyone, I am currently assembling a Spotify playlist of Christian Blues rock.
Can you suggest any good songs or artists? So far I have songs from:
Greg Chaisson
Ashley Cleveland
Darrell Mansfield
Resurrection Band
Glenn Kaiser
The Brave
Rex Carroll Band
Stairway
Bride
James Byrd
...Tony Palacios would have been good too, but Spotify removed his album.
Thanks for any suggestions.

There was a guy who went by Sleepy Ray back in the day but I don't know if he's on Spotify. Mark Farner is another option.

Eric Turner (not sure if he's on spotify or not) but he was Darrell Mansfields guitarist for at least a few albums and he has a couple of blues-rock solo albums.

Thanks, turns out these are on Spotify. I remember Sleepy Ray, I used to have that CD.
But I had forgotten about him.

Re: Christian Blues rock?
I’m not sure if he would count for your list or not since he’s not really in the “Christian music” scene, but you might still want to check out Jonny Lang. He’s been pretty open about his Christian beliefs, and they do show in some of his lyrics, albeit usually more subtly than with the artists you already listed.

If you can find a copy Stevie and the Saints classified themselves as Blues Rock

Re: Christian Blues rock?
Check out my two projects! My band name is Big Chris & D'Bare Bones Band. I wrote the songs, played all guitars and bass, and did all vocals. I even built the electric cigar box guitars I play on the records. The music is mostly bluesy. The lyrics are mostly from a Christian viewpoint. However, I tell some stories to illustrate my points for some tracks and even do a couple of comedy songs as well. I didn't want to be labeled as "too preachy" as I was with Mission Of One, so I changed things around to make the album very real.
The albums are available anywhere you'd buy or stream music.

Graham Ord plays blues and gospel music. I like a couple of his songs. He is on Spotify.

Red Sea Blood is an excellent bluesy hard rock album. X-Sinner has some great bluesy tunes as well.

While those do constitute blues, I don't think that is exactly what Constantine had in mind when he asked. He wanted blues ROCK. I think this fits more into the traditional blues.
For myself, I am definitely more interested in blues with more driving guitars than this.

F.O.G. but I can't seem to find their release anymore since they disbanded. And I have no idea if it is on Spotify, I haven't used Spotify in a long time.

Re: Christian Blues rock?
How about Landon Spradlin? I'd never heard of him until I heard a Christian blues artist died of Covid. I since picked up his No More Blue Mondays album and I like it.

Hey thanks! Both F.O.G. and Landon Spradlin are on Spotify.
I just bookmarked them and will sample their catalog when I have some more time.
As for Graham Ord, he had some songs with Dane Stevens that I added to the playlist, plus a few from his solo material.

Re: Christian Blues rock?
Wow, I just discovered Blues Counsel. Don't know how I missed them.
They are Rick Cua (bass) and a bunch of all pro studio musicians who have played with many famous name artists.
I see that Pro-Zak posted about them in 2019 but I never saw that until today when I did a search to see if anyone here knew them.
If you haven't checked them out before, this is an amazing video of them playing at a church with Phil Keaggy:

Will McFarlane on guitar has played with Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, Waylon Jennings and others. He's a legit talent as are all the people playing on this.

Phil Keaggy's All at Once album is one of the best of his more recent work. It's blues-rock for sure and sports a whole band (unlike much of his newer stuff). Blues song titles: "My Guitar's In Love", "La la la Love You".

Great call!! I am not a Phil Keaggy fan so I would never have known about this album.Sevenoneself wrote:Phil Keaggy's All at Once album is one of the best of his more recent work. It's awesome, I have it playing on Spotify. Too bad you can't get it on CD anymore, there is one copy on Ebay for $130

Re: Christian Blues rock?
I am a huge Phil Keaggy fan. I saw him perform only once, in 2003, in a fairly small venue, maybe 60-80 people. I knew nothing about looping at that point. I was dead center, maybe 20 ft back, and I was blown away and captivated for the whole hour and a half!
However, I'll be the first to admit that he's put out tons of stuff that isn't accessible or mixed well or recorded well. There's a ton of his stuff that I don't listen to, but he's also got some real gems, of which this album is. From what I know, it had been a decade or two since he had recorded with a full band, and it was a huge treat for the more mainstream Keaggy fans like myself. I'm glad you're likin' it!

As well, I don't buy CD's anymore, so I can't even brag about having a copy of it. I bought the album on Itunes.
It can be difficult getting some of that indy stuff for a decent shipping cost in Canada. A bunch of Phil Keaggy's catalogue is only sold by himself.

Re: Christian Blues rock?
Constantine,
This is tooting my own horn, but I'm going to do it anyway. I completed an album recently, and I have 2 hymns on it that are blues-rock. Victory in Jesus is acoustic-based, My Faith Has Found a Resting Place in closer is rockier. Both are available on Spotify.
