I grew up loving ELO especially the great run of albums from 1976 to 1981...but this new album is really average in my opinion... There is only one song I really like...It's just a Jeff Lynne solo album to me...Yes he writes all their songs but without that magic orchestral and synth elements it's just not memorable...Plus his style has changed too much.

To an average listener like myself I could never tell you what time period this was from. I would know it was ELO but I would have no idea what era it was. Sounds classic to me but also pretty average. I had heard he was doing stuff again and it was mostly solo but it's decent enough.
I do have a few of the re-recorded hits that he did a few years back (I downloaded from iTunes) and actually those sound really good and very true to the originals. In fact, when bands re-record songs you can always tell they are new recordings. With the "Mr. Blue Sky" stuff I would have a hard time telling they were re-recorded unless I listened on headphones.

I think it's good for what it is, of course it can't touch those classics but the dude is in his 70's so I'll take what I can get.

I have the clam-shell box set with the classic ELO albums. I'm a fan of the old school stuff. I'm glad that Jeff Lynne is still going at it. "Waterfall" and "Can't Get It Out of My Head" are my go-to ELO songs.

Last Train to London and All Over the World might be my faves.

Oh yeah... All Over the World was a great tune as was I'm Alive. I always tend to overlook those two as they were from the Xanadu soundtrack (which isn't included in my box set, unfortunately).Black Rider wrote:Last Train to London and All Over the World might be my faves.

A lot of people seem to forget about them. Wonder if they've been added to any of the hits albums?
