A brother of my congregation my age was hyped on my TQT Hoodie. He's a Theocracy stan. Another brother much older than me is a Bloodgood and Stryper stan of the first hour.Pethead wrote:Some random dude at the park who was also there with his kids commented on my Tourniquet shirt.

Every time possible, if a cashier asks me if I would like the milk in a bag, I tell them "No, I want it left in the jug/carton.". (Steven Wright joke)

I guess it has to do with licensing music, but they could still at least wear t-shirts of newer bands (unless even showing a band logo needs clearance).
The 80s were the only decade where heavy metal (esp. glam/hair/sleaze stuff) was actually a part of mainstream culture.
Heavy metal & hard rock were all over the place. MTV had a huge part in promoting the visual aesthetics of the over-the-top (for the time) imagery and "fashions" of the genre.
Even people who were not necessarily into metal often dressed the part. Ripped jeans, leather jackets, band shirts, and the crazy hair.
So from an aesthetical viewpoint, it makes a little more sense to present a character as into 80s metal, since that's the decade most people associate with the genre.
The 80s were also the beginning of most of the metal sub-genres that we enjoy today.

Fortunately religious schools have the exact same status as public schools in the Netherlands, and we live in a very Christian region. So we found a solidly Christian elementary school in less than two miles away. Apparently because of government rules, sex ed starts from the earliest classes when kids are four, but this school uses a method that was developed by a very, VERY reformed highschool.

Ironically, when the punk band Bad Religion (troubling name, I know) put out a Christmas album a few years ago, they made a point not to do any secular Christmas songs (aside from White Christmas). They did them in punk style of course, but they didnt change the lyrics or anything.

Four-year-old children, and sex, should never be in the same sentence. (Unless that sentence is something like, "Gee whiz, teaching sex to four-year-olds sure is repulsive and makes me think of pedophiles and serial killers!")Andreas89 wrote:Apparently because of government rules, sex ed starts from the earliest classes when kids are four
It's a shame that any world government requires schools to teach that way.
What practical use is there for these lessons to happen at age four? Shouldn't we be certain that before we teach our audience about diddling each other, the audience at least knows how to spell "diddling"? No? Okay Dutch government, you know best, lol.

“What is this music?”
“A band called Ritual Servant.”
“Oh.”
Not sure what that “oh” meant.

It’s heading that way in America too, and a concerning number of people (and at least one mainstream political party) support it, and act like those who don’t support it are the bad guys. I would encourage everyone to homeschool their kids if they can, while they can. Or at least send them to a Christian school they trustnocturnaliridescence wrote:Four-year-old children, and sex, should never be in the same sentence. Yeah, I brought this up because I was watching a Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie (I was bored), and the teenage older brother who's into metal was wearing a Motorhead shirt throughout the movie (though he is wearing an Avenged Sevenfold shirt at one point), which seemed odd for a teenage character.MagnusPrime wrote:WildWorld wrote:Ever notice that in movies or tv shows, whenever they have a character who's a "metalhead", their taste in metal rarely goes past mainstream 80s metal? I'm okay with this much (and only this much). I think things like "the stork" present a false image of the world to children. There are things we should definitely withhold from them -- heck, this is a Biblical command even with other adults whose minds/spirits are not ready for certain teachings -- but "withholding" doesn't mean "replacing with a lie". If we claim to live lives of truth, in service to a deity of truth, we should strive to tell the truth, especially to the extremely impressionable.Andreas89 wrote:"mommy has a baby in her belly"
