Wish they would've changed their name, this sounds nothing like old Fear Not.

Re: Fear Not new single 'Carry Me'
They don't sound like them, but there is a lot brought forward from the first album, too. I hear a lot of different things going on. Sure, the new singer added a different dimension, but I still hear a lot of the song structure and feel that they had on that first album.
A new name might have been a good thing, but for marketing I would guess this name worked. I can't blame them for using it. What will be interesting is where they go if they do a full length.

yeah, and while I do like this release it is different. My two biggest disappointments with it where A. Not long enough (give us a full length album!) and B. It didn't sound like FN, at least not to me.

Re: Fear Not new single 'Carry Me'
Lots of bands have changed singers &or styles and not changed their name.
You don't change your name simply because one person left, or because you change your sound.
Don't forget, it's been what, 26 years since their last album? I think it is natural for a band's sound to change over that length of time.
Rainbow has retained their name over a multitude of singers and changes in style, for example.
Whitesnake changed their sound, Scorpions changed their sound, VH changed singers and styles....

I hear any of the groups mentioned in any incarnation and I know who it is due to keeping a core sound intact. I hear new Fear Not and if I didn't know, wouldn't guess it's them. Don't Want None is the closet they get to the old sound and some of it reminds me of Shinedown. Meh, just my opinion.

It's all just our opinions....
I have to say, to me, Man on the Silver Mountain era Rainbow sounds nothing like Street of Dreams era Rainbow. At all.
Not even close to the same style, and a different singer.

I think the band wanted to test the waters to see if there would be any interest in a comeback after 26 years. While many of us do remember them, they may have felt that the fans just weren't there anymore. I think it was a great way to make a little dip into the waters to see which way the current flowed.
Re: Fear Not new single 'Carry Me'
MikeInFla, I agree with you...I would’ve preferred a full length, and yes...I don’t think it sounded like their last album from 2 or 3 decades ago. That being said, I thought the songs were pretty good especially ‘come get some.’alldatndensum wrote:MikeInFla wrote:yeah, and while I do like this release it is different. Alldatndensum...If this was testing the waters then I hope it encouraged them to get in the studio and give us some more great music...maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a little of both—their old sound and some newer stuff...either way, if it’s good then it’s better than having no ‘Fear Not.’

See, I can recognize Blackmore's work anytime, no matter who's singing. Listen Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Bent Out of Shape albums side by side and you can hear a lot of similarities.

That's better than anything in the last album, hope it's a sign of the whole album.

I agree. Also, great production and sound.
I'm just puzzled why the track seemed to end so abruptly.

Re: Fear Not new single 'Carry Me'
No thanks. This band is miles away from the melodic hard rock of the old days. They shouldn’t call this Fear Not. I’m not saying it’s bad. I don’t like it but I recognize that many will, and that’s cool. I just wish they’d stay true to their sound from 1993.

Re: Fear Not new single 'Carry Me'
I thought it sounded good as well, just not for me. The tracks I heard from the last album sounded like Daughtry or Nickelback. I suppose this sounds a little different but it is still not my style. Nice production and video quality.

I am diggin' this! It has the classic sound as far as guitars even though they are tuned lower than they once were! I knew Larry Worley was playing guitar, but it was cool to see him take the lead on this song. Everything else seems intact with the band save for the new vocalist that I think fits the down-tuned sound. Truthfully, It just sounds like a deeper version of their old selves to me.
Of course, I am the guy that likes the Sammy version of Van Halen better than that of Dave. What do I know?
