Hahaha! Valid.
Black Rider wrote:In Christian DM, start with Pantokrator, they're the best imo. Sacrificium and Deuteronomium are also good though you have to be careful with Deuteronomium, they have some weird albums. Also, Mortification's Scrolls of the Megilloth is gold.
Pantokrator is indeed very, very good. Each album is better than the last IMO but they're all fantastic. If you like them, definitely check out Melech (which has two of the members from Pantokrator).

Are there any melodic Death Metal bands that are melodic but don't sacrifice the speed to be melodic if that makes sense
Do you like symphonic stuff? I HIGHLY recommend Renascent and I think they'd fit your request. Maybe it'd be better to make another thread for death metal recommendations, but I also suggest:
Aletheian (technical/progressive)
The Autumn League (melodic)
Blood Thirsty (symphonic)
Schaliach (melodic, some doom)
Syringe (progressive) (free to download!)
Vardoger (progressive/melodic)

Slechtvalk is awesome. I love their Forlorn Throne album! The cover art reminds me of Dark Souls, heheh.Black Rider wrote:Might also check out Immortal Souls and Schlechtvalk.

Also, I'm saddened that Demoniciduth isn't getting more love. Enemy of Satan is such an awesome song!

Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
I love this band too! I got an email from the lead singer he said they weren't a Christian band per say even though he believes in God but that there music does deal with spiritual themes. I think for me one of there best songs is Dream In Beautiful Slumber my neighborhood hates my guts when I put that song in and crank it lol.Kerrick wrote:^I love Far Beyond and listen to them often, though I don't recall anything in their lyrics being particularly Christian?

Cool, thanks for the info! I've chatted with Eugen some over email but only about the music and not spirituality and such. He's a super cool guy and I'm glad to hear he's a believer too.
Hahaha your neighborhood probably secretly loves it. That's one of my favorites as well. Do you have the newest album? It's pretty stellar.

Their first album is the most black metal sounding. From there they became more "epic". All their material is very good though.

Can anyone recommend some music similar in atmosphere to Horde? Lo-fi, cold, that sort of thing.

Yes bro and I would recommend it to everyone! I wish they where more consistent with releases. Doesn't Eugene play in a second band?Kerrick wrote:Opeth3232 wrote:I love this band too! Alstadt (above, latest albums is the best)
Golgota
Irgalom
Rotting Serpent (more epic/noisy than Horde, but very cold)
Soker Tiflukt
A number of bands on the Vision of God sublabel - Christian Metal Underground (CMU) are raw black, too. Nosral Recording bandcamp.com page is a great reference as well.
Start there and then dig in to the rabbit hole............................

Thanks for the mention bro.
I've been getting some good feedback regarding the 6th full length that came out this month.
Definitely my magnum opus for this project...

Finally got my copy of Temple of Perdition's "Tetragrammaton" over the weekend. It's an absolute masterpiece! Blown away by this album! Definitely adding this to the list. The atmosphere is incredible!
