Let's talk unblack metal!
I wanna hear what your favorite unblack bands/songs are. When I listen to Christian metal, it's usually in this genre.
My absolute favorite unblack band is Antestor. I know it's probably a typical response, but they're just so good! I'm also a fan of Horde (Hellig Usvart is just a killer album), Elgibbor, and Slechtvalk, to name a few.
Favorite Antestor album is The Forsaken, favorite song is Via Dolorosa.

I do love me some Christian black metal. Based off of the bands listed above, here are some I think you'd like:
Admonish. They only have two EPs but they're both quite good and worth getting.
Crimson Moonlight. You probably already know these guys, but in case you don't, they're very highly regarded and often spoken of in the same breath as Antestor.
Dodsmarsch. They've only got one EP out yet... but keep an eye on these guys.
Dormant. Another one EP wonder but definitely worth tracking down.
Evroklidon. Great stuff. Too bad they only released one album. Another one was supposedly in the works but nothing's come of it.
Frosthardr. Their two EPs are excellent.
Grave Declaration. High quality symphonic black metal with bold lyrics.
Hesychast. Black metal with Russian Orthodox style chanting.
Lengsel. Only their first album is black metal, but their second one is good too - just VERY different.
Ohen. Symphonic and quite eclectic black metal from Slovakia.
Parakletos. Symphonic black metal. After 14 years they have new material! Their full length is excellent and their new EP has me extremely excited for what's to come.
Sanctifica. Like Lengesl, only their first album (and EP) is black metal. It's a classic!
The Slave Eye. They're relatively new on the scene and are one of my favorites.
Through The Thorns. Great atmosphere.
Vaakevandring. Their one EP is hard to find but definitely worth getting. Members of Antestor.
Vardoger. Unfortunately they just announced their breakup, but they released one great EP of black metal and one full length of progressive death metal.
Vials Of Wrath. Another of my absolute favorites.
Well hopefully that'll be enough to get you started!

Every band I was going to mention was either mentioned by you (or Erasmus) or is at least related to one of them.
By the way, welcome Haruji-san.

Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
Some personal favorites we're mentioned but I'll give those along with my favorite releases:
Crimson Moonlight "Veil of Remembrance"
Shadows of Paragon "Through The Valley Within"
Hazeroth "Charms of Sin"
Antestor "The Forsaken"
Slechtvalk "A Forlorn Throne"
Divine Symphony "The History"
A Hill To Die Upon "Holy Despair"
The Slave Eye "Unto Hades"
Drottnar "Stratum" (blackened tech metal)
Cerimonial Sacred "Christ Worshipers"
Stronghold "Cult of Remorse"
Grave Declaration "When Dying Souls Scream Praise"
Hesychast "Ageless"
Throne of Awful Splendor "The Supernal Hunger"
Enshrouding "Arise New Army"
Vials of Wrath "Days Without Names"
I actually really love Propiciatorium "Come and See" but the production is oddly muffled. Musically it's one of my favorites.

Looks like I have a lot to listen to, then!
Anyone here a fan of Elgibbor? Soterion Apollomi Hamartia (think I spelled that right...) is really good.

Somehow I forgot They Wither:
And I'm not sure how I forgot Throne Of Awful Splendor either. Thank you Frozen Fire. FYI their two EPs are going to be rereleased on CD with a couple bonus tracks I believe. I'll definitely be picking that one up.

@Hardcore Christian Frost Like Ashes is... something. I love the music, but the vocals are really odd. I'll listen to more of their stuff; maybe they'll grow on me.
I started listening to White Throne last night, and they're pretty good!

Yeah I saw that. Glad they got their old guitarist back to. I thought some of the unique sound of the first ep, The Supernal Hunger, was lost on the second, All Lights Relinquished. Talent-wise they nailed the 2nd ep, production-wise they nailed it, just wasn't as compelling. I gave it a lot of listens but it didn't stick the same. I need to go back to it. Having a physical album actually helps, especially if I can read lyrics as I go.
They Whither is excellent. Good call! Not sure how "black" it is but it has that great earlier Opeth vibe and it's an incredible release regardless. Great songwriters!
Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
I still need to sit down and listen to Martyrium! I just can't get away from The Forsaken. XPOpeth3232 wrote:My favorite is Antestor as well with Martyrium being my favorite by them and Mercy Lord my favorite song off the album and Depressed

Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
If you like Antestor, I cannot recommend enough getting your hands on "Kongsblod" which is the remastered version of "Return of the Black Death", their first true black metal album. The atmosphere is so heavy, the sorrow is just palpable. It's an incredible testament to their art as it was incredibly well received by the secular community until it came out that they were Christians (of course...). It doesn't move along as quickly as "The Forsaken" (which is probably one of my favorite all time albums, btw) but it's a masterpiece in different ways.
I like Martyrium, but it's a very different album. Very death/doom/heavy. It's still very good.

Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
Is Kongsblod remastered at all, or is it just RotBD with its proper art and lyrics? I was never clear on that.
I listened to RotBD just the other day, and it's phenomenal! Though Kjetil Molnes' voice is taking some getting used to for me, heheh.
Thanks!

In Christian DM, start with Pantokrator, they're the best imo. Sacrificium and Deuteronomium are also good though you have to be careful with Deuteronomium, they have some weird albums. Also, Mortification's Scrolls of the Megilloth is gold.

Re: Let's talk unblack metal!
The Forsaken I have to admit is good just not my favorite my friend. There is something about Martyrium I just love. I love that doomy dirty feel to it and the melodies just love it I wish the would do a cd with that sound again. I have The Defeat Of Satan and all that one needs is a really good remaster and it would be one of my favorites as well Jesus Saves just rips but the production just stinks. Black metal is a tricky thing for me I love the melodies and the speed but it's always the vocals that ruin it for me. It has to be done in a certain way or it just doesn't invite me or encourage me to open my wallet lol. Loved Crimson Moonlight when they where more symphonic I wear out there Ep and that first album of there's now they've lost all that wonderful melody they used to haveHaruji-san wrote:I still need to sit down and listen to Martyrium! Are there any melodic Death Metal bands that are melodic but don't sacrifice the speed to be melodic if that makes sense
