New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
Got a notification today from Guardian due to backing their kickstarter a few years back about something new that will soon be coming. I know based on some post from Jamie Rowe, it involves him and David Bach and possibly Rex Carroll. I know that Jamie posted a short video of him and Bach heading to Chicago (where they attended a Casting Crowns concert with opener Danny Gokey who's guitarist I believe is Tony Palacios) and then a pic of them working on something. I think Rex still lives in the Chicago area so that is why I think he is involved. Stay tuned..

Where is that "shut up and take my money" picture?
I hope it is a new guardian album, but I would also love any project involving Rex Carroll.
BTW, the Guardian kickstater project was the only one I didn't back, when it comes to the bands I love.

I'm very curious as to what's going on here, as well.

I'd be curious to hear what they are going to do with Rex on board. I hope it would be a total shred album.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but too many times I have salivated over the prospect of something like this only to have it (A) not be that great when it comes, or (B) never come at all. If this comes to fruition and it's everything it could be, then I'll get excited.

I will add to what you said, too. I've A) had something to not be that great when it comes, B) never come at all, or C) take an unrealistic amount of time when the crowd funding was over. Sadly, all three of those involve both parties of this new venture. Whatever happened to the new Whitecross the band promised after "1987"? Never happened. That last Guardian album--it wasn't what a lot of fans wanted, and they took two years to get it out. Many of us gave up that it would ever come.
So, I am excited, but also skeptical.
Re: New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
I can tell you what happened with the Whitecross record, as Rex has told me. Quite simply, the band does not all have the same vision on new material, and so they stick to doing one-off shows and festivals, usually where King James is also playing, and don't really have much interest in making new Whitecross music at this time. Rex has said that if a label actually wanted to pay them to do it, instead of giving them a deal with little to no guarantee of pushing the album or helping sales, then he would definitely consider a new Whitecross record.
I do know that aside from anything he is working on with Jamie, Rex is working on a brand new project not related to Whitecross, King James, or RCB. I have heard some of it...it SHREDS, plain and simple...

The last part about the label is probably the biggest kicker. Sadly, they have a lot of talent, but few labels would take a chance on them seeing they haven't really been active in almost 2 decades and without a hit even in the Christian market in even a longer amount of time. Outside of the Christian market, no one has heard of them. To a secular label, that makes them just as big of a risk as an unheard of band. In the Christian scene, no one is going to give them a deal like they had back in the day. Their best bet would be the Kickstarter campaign that other bands have done.

Please be something that rocks out. Sorry, but the last Guardian album is mostly a snooze fest.

And not just the last one, but the last 4 ones...? IMO Guardian sold their musical soul, when they did Buzz and Bottle rocket. Swing swang swung was a good joke, that`s all. Fire & Love and Miracle Mile are excellent, (almost) legendary albums, but(t) all others... .

I was never a big fan of the first 2 but really like Buzz and Bottle Rocket - different style but still good . As far as anything new that's any good I won't be holding my breath.

Re: New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
Ok, I really doubt there is much to get excited about here. So Jamie and David Bach drove to Chicago to see Tony. There's another picture of David holding a bass standing by the soundboard at the concert. There's also a comment on another post that the Whitecross guys live about 15 minutes from there to which Jamie replies "Yeah.. I think I'm gonna' see Rex while I'm here."
It just seems like a whole lot of speculation to put Jamie and Rex in a studio together. Not that I wouldn't like to hear it.

Tony Palacios and Rex Carroll would make a great twin axe attack!

After the last Guardian album, I don't think Tony wants to shred anymore.
Re: New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
I honestly like Almost Home.. it was definitely a grower, but I can't say there are more than one or two.songs that miss the mark for me.

I would like to see a classic sounding album with solos, but I don't think Guardian would support that kind if album. Rex might but he would have to get Guradian on board. I have been unimpressed over the past few Guardian releases. Almost Home was a bit beter than Bottle Rocket.

I love "Buzz". It is just a more raw sounding album while keeping classic Guardian elememts. It was the right way to try being more alternative like other bands were doing and trying to keep old fans on board, too.
I like "Bottle Rocket", but is far from being their best work. It is still light years ahead of "Almost Home".
Re: New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
My guess for people who dislike Almost Home is that they were waiting for some hard rock like Fire and Love or miracle Mile, what was never promised b y the band. As I was expecting something more like buzz or Swing swang swung, I really enoyed this album. It is still a regular listen in my collection.

Re: New Guardian or SuperGroup possiblity...
I appreciate Almost Home on its own merits. Would I have loved a Fire and Love styled record? You bet. But I still like the album quite a bit actually.
I remember a Metal Praise album that had Rex Carroll, Jeff Scheetz, and Bruce Swift on guitars, and Ray Perra, Les Carlsen, and Rex Scott on vocals. I really like that album. That's the kind of project I can get into.
