Maybe so, but that should stop anyone from starting a pit.New Creation wrote:
That's because it wasn't a metal concert or a metal festival. It was a music festival to end poverty and bring awareness to "social justice" issues. There were a variety of artists there that day like Ellie Goulding.

You have a point, all the audiences seem tame no matter where they are.
I did some searches for Metallica Most Pit 2016 and found scant results. I wonder what is up?
Testament has way better pits this year!

I just wanted to add that mosh pits are extremely annoying and should be discouraged by any means necessary.

This is correct.
Metal Code: Title 17 - Audience Involvement
Chapter 1 - General Provisions and Definitions
Chapter 2 - Screaming and Yelling
Chapter 3 - Proper use of fist pumps, hand signs, and lighters
Chapter 4 - Slam dancing, stage diving and moshing
Chapter 4: Subsection A.3 - Moshing:
Moshing is a required activity for a metal concert that involves any music that is not hard rock or industrial. Moshing shall be a required activity by at least 5% of the audience at all thrash and death metal shows. The participants must be no closer than 10 feet to the stage and not farther than 30 feet from the stage. If the audience prefers, two mosh pits may be formed near the front of the event but with the same stage proximity and no less than 10 feet from each other. In the northern hemisphere, mosh pits, or circle pits, must move in a counter-clockwise fashion, in the southern hemisphere, a clockwise fashion.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
I am currently listening to the album "Hardwired...To Self Destruct" it's pretty solid. Hardwired is probably the least interesting track. And the only track to have heavy cursing.
All in all it's a solid album but the songs could be just a little bit shorter.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Just listened to it. Musically it's just all right, a solidly above average thrash album. The lyrics are simple but it's interesting to see how many almost Christian messages there are on the album. The title track and album title is of course about our fallen sinful nature.
The others:
Atlas, Rise! -- about bearing others' burdens but not out of pride
Now That We're Dead -- about being with a loved one after death; includes lyric
When doubt returns
May it be
That faith shall permeate our scars"
and
When Kingdom comes
May it be
We walk right through that open door
Moth Into Flame -- the destructive addiction to fame
Dream No More -- about Cthulhu awakening
Halo on Fire -- about a good person giving in to temptation
Confusion -- about a soldier dealing with war trauma
ManUNkind -- another song about our fallen nature and the difficulty of placing any faith in mankind
Here Comes Revenge -- about revenge personified, as a negative thing
Am I Savage? -- about turning into a werewolf
Murder One -- memorial for Lemmy of Motorhead (his amp was called Murder One)
Spit Out the Bone -- about technology taking over the world
Overall about as much Christian or Christian-friendly content as most "Christian" bands these days. I just found it curious. The morality and symbolism that has meaning to Metallica (or at least James) is all based in Judeo-Christianity.

James has always had what I call a bleak worldview based on truth.
As for the album, it's good, better then anything since the Black album imo.

Yeah totally -- I agree on both fronts. I think the album is good and will grow on me, especially when I get a chance to crank it real loud.Black Rider wrote:James has always had what I call a bleak worldview based on truth.

Secular artists can always point out that there is some kind of problem, but rarely put forth a message that would be a solution to the problem.
Enjoyed DM very much and I am enjoying Hardwired even more. I kind of wish they put Lords of summer ( or something like it ) in the mix of the second disc to mix up the tempos more though.

Well, if they offered a solution, they'd lose most of their audience. We're the culture that can always search but never arrive.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Hardwired is a very solid album that has very little that I actually gravitate towards. I don't get the "thrash album" comments, though. Yes, there are a couple SONGS that qualify, but most of the 12 main tracks are mid paced groove oriented material that sits as the perfect companion piece to the Load material.
For my money, they could have swapped out the studio bonus tracks for some of the stuff that actually made the album cut, and had a better album. I have far fewer criticisms of the album than I was afraid I would have, it's mostly that the pacing of it loses my interest. If Load-era Metallica is "your" Metallica, then this is probably spectacular for you. This is NOT the Metallica that made me HAVE to learn how to play guitar, though......
I WILL say that "Spit out the Bone" is the best thing they've put out in over 20 years. The main riff sounds like something Kreator would write, and I absolutely LOVE it.

Once a thrash band, always a thrash band. I like the album but i'm guessing it won't be on regular rotation for me, unlike the new 'deth.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Understanding that these guys are in their mid 50's, I knew not to expect Master of Puppets part 2. But they completely exceeded my expectations here with this one. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since I got it. I've been spending a few days absorbing a song or two, and then moving on to others that I've not played as much. Right now, I've been really spinning Now that We're Dead and Halo on Fire.

I'm finding with this album I enjoy the songs if one comes on shuffle but if I listen straight through, I start tuning it out.

Yup.
Too much mid paced material. The faster stuff is as good as anything they've ever put out. Feels like a home run the outfielder snatched away at the last second.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
More missed potential for greatness than St. Anger. I say that because this was so much closer to being AMAZING, that it's that much more disappointing for me that I can't latch on to it. Some of their strongest material in decades, and there is SOMETHING that keeps me from enjoying it properly, like I should.

Spit Out the Bone is epic, hands down the best song here. Atlas Rise is great, something reminds me of Maiden in it, very NWOBHM sounding.
