Re: METALLICA are back!!!
I think it's a good continuation of the Death Magnetic style with some of the old Kill 'Em All speed and aggression. Lyrics aren't the best though...

Meh...not my style. Not bad, but doesn't grab me at all. I'm not into music that aggressive. Don't care much for the lack of creativity in the chorus either. (Really, James, at this point in life, you can't do any better than f- and s-bombs?)

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
I quite like this musically, as it definitely hearkens back to their classic earlier material. Even though I don't necessarily freak out just because I hear a cuss word, I don't think the lyrics are that great either. The way they use those words here almost feels like they're doing it just to prove that they have their old aggressiveness and attitude back, which is honestly just immature.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Yesterday, I thought it was "good", not great. Today, it feels like Stuart Smalley trying to be angry and play Kill 'Em All. Tried tooooo hard........
Other than that, all of my criticism are basically production choices.....

eh...they're gonna have to do better than Death Magnetic 2.0 to get me excited. Maybe if James steps up the lyrics I'll be happy. The album art is simply atrocious too.

I know very little about drums but there seems to be a "clicking" noise throughout the drum playing. What is that?

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
That's from how the bass drums are recorded/produced. There's a technic for recording them that shows up in this style were you run them through a lot of compression and also boost the high and low signals. That way instead of a dull thud as they naturally sound you get a heavy thump and a 'click' that helps define the beat.New Creation wrote:deathisgain wrote:Ugh! That bass drum sound is annoying me. I figured it was that, or it was getting a lot of the pedal sound hitting the head.
On a side note, I remember when "... And Justice for All" came out, a friend of mine played it non-stop every time we rode in his car. I couldn't stand the sound of that album. I thought it lacked bass, and the drums sounded like crap.
Re: METALLICA are back!!!
I like it musically, heavier than I expected.
Lyrically, it's lame. Sounds like Tenacious D

I think it sound like Death Magnetic, not bad. However, this artwork is quite ugly.
Waiting for others songs.

THIS track is great......that chorus is the best Hetfield has sounded in 20 years!
Pay attention the the facial expressions on Het and Lars in the vid......They are FEELING it, and "all in" on this one.

It does seem to have an updated AJFA production, but I don't mind that at all. AJFA is one of the most epic albums of all time! The production is SO much better than DM (I can't even listen to DM) I guess you can't please everyone. These tracks sound KILLER in my car!

Will Jason be back in Metallica soon?
I have nothing against Robert Trujillo, in fact I think he is a great guy, and bass player. He just doesn't fit in Metallica, to me. Jason will always be Metallica's bass player for me. Unless they raise Cliff from the dead.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Rob has been with them for nearly as long as Jason was, though. I'll be absolutely SHOCKED if he leaves/is asked to step back and Jason comes back as a member.
I AM sort of expecting something similar to the arrangements for the HOF ceremony and 30th anniversary stuff, though. The next thing on the remaster list is AJFA, and we just marked the 25th anniversary of the Black Album a couple weeks back, and Jason was absolutely integral to that timeframe of the band. Having him out playing select songs from those albums on select tour dates makes sense with how they've operated in the recent past......but just from Jason's own statements over the years, I can't see it being a permanent member change.

Moth Into Flame is fantastic. Probably better than any song on DM! I still don't like the title track, though.

Re: METALLICA are back!!!
Question/commentary.
It great to see them out playing these great songs.
What's going on with their audience? Looks like the song played is older than anyone in the audience. I think that's great, that shows the quality of the music as it's timeless, but. Where's the pit? The audience looks more like they're at a Hillsong event than at Metallica.

That's because it wasn't a metal concert or a metal festival. It was a music festival to end poverty and bring awareness to "social justice" issues. There were a variety of artists there that day like Ellie Goulding.
