Re: The Christian music industry
While I do enjoy some CCM artists, I never listen to Christian radio anymore. It is just too irrelevant anymore for many of the reasons in that video. It is a cute video, but not hilarious. Why do I say that? Because if you listen to Christian radio, you will discover that it is true.

"We've kind of just given up on reaching non-Christians."
That zinger may not be true but it FEELS true. I think it's just a symptom of our culture though. We've given up on reaching non-Christians. Not all of us of course, but it feels like we've retreated more and more into our Christian ghetto, put our salt back in the cupboard and turned the light inward.

Which explains why the church as a whole is in a decline. We don't care about those in the shadows of the steeples anymore.
Re: The Christian music industry
History repeating itself. The church got bought out when it married the Roman empire and later we had the reformation to correct that. Now the Church in the US has sold itself to the American dream. We want it's promise of prosperity and comfort instead of the dirty work of the gospel. So we've turned the gospel to mean prosperity and comfort by faith instead of salvation and actual relationship with God.alldatndensum wrote:eatbugs wrote:"We've kind of just given up on reaching non-Christians."

BTW, I struggle with this myself. I don't believe in those false teachings, but if I'm honest, I live like I do too often not willing to sacrifice my comfort to reach out to the lost.

Re: The Christian music industry
OUCH! It sure feels true. I do blame the worship movement and church culture a lot for this as well as the corporatization of the CCM industry. I read an article when I was doing my dissertation research about the purchase of the major Gospel labels by the big corporate music labels and how the fear was that Sony, EMI, etc. were going to insist that the Christian artists tone down the God stuff in their music and make it more secularly-relevant and profitable. Instead what happened is that the big corporate labels pushed for the Christian artists to make their music pretty much relevant only in the Christian market by focusing on hit worship songs and other kinds of "insider" music. It was an interesting read. I'll try to find it and post a link.
