My vote goes for industrial but I think even some of my favorites arent strictly that, I mean bands like Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Mnemic, Sybreed, Raunchy. I"m also big on melodic death metal-both new and old, and also folk metal

That's good stuff! I also love Industrial Metal! All those bands you mentioned are good!
I also love Rammstein and KMFDM! Not to mention Circle of Dust and Klank.

How did I forget Rammstein? I like KMFDM too and also Megaherz is very good.

Tough choice. I voted progressive, but my real answer would be symphonic progressive power metal. I like it best when bands blend some combination of the three.

Re: Subgenres of Metal!
I like almost every kind of metal: Heavy, Thrash, Death, Black, Power, Symphonic, Gothic, Folk. But my favourite so far is melodic death metal. It has all the elements of true heavy metal (some people don't consider stuff like industrial metal, nu metal, -corish stuff ) mixing greatly melody, speed and brutality. Sometimes this bands sound a bit power, some thrashy, some of them heavy or some may have kind of black metal influences. So, to be honest, what should i vote on the poll?

What's funny is that Glam Metal is #2 in voting, but no one has said it was their vote. I ain't ashamed! Glam/Hair/Pop Metal all the way!

I notice thrash metal is leading at the moment. I like some of it myself, but I wonder why it has such appeal?

Analyzing the big picture, I see Deliverance and Megadeth as thrash metal bands.Aaron C wrote:I voted Traditional I find when I listen to Metal, its stuff like Megadeth, Deliverance, Iron Maiden, Sabbath

I'll go on record with you, FOJ. I voted Glam! I'd take that and then traditional heavy metal following as a very close 2nd.
The more extreme styles you guys can keep.

My guess is because it is so versatile. From DRI to Watchtower.
It doesn't have one single vocal style that defines it also.
Also it was probably in its heyday when most posters here were in their formative years (like me).

I was the third person to vote black.
Not much of a surprise.

That third reason makes sense to me.

I guess because is the most accessible yet extreme form of metal, and not far from the sound of traditional heavy metal.
