They remind me a lot of "Sacrament", chaotic thrash...

For people who are interested in hearing what kind of stuff this was, here is one song off the In Remembrance of Me album, Dark Laden:
I had this cd back when it came out, was heavy into the goth scene at the time, but even then I found it to be quite boring...

Can't go wrong with the entire second album. Destroys EVERYTHING else from that era in terms of vibe and music. All IMO, of course......but for my personal tastes, both back then and today, this disc is head and shoulders above every other notable disc from the era.Temple of Blood wrote:?

I still own In Remembrance Of Me. Granted, I don't listen to it very often, but I might have to give it a spin.

So nobody else had issues with Betrayal's vocals? There's literally no vocal melody to almost every song on the first album. I'm pretty sure that's why they brought in the guest vocalists on the second album.

Betrayal was/is one of my favorites from that era. Whenever you heard a Betrayal song, you know is is Betrayal...and that is something great!
The argument that I hear the most is that "the vocalist's style left something to be desired". However, I feel the vocals were well done. I cannot imagine anybody else who could have fit better in the band at that time? In my opinion (which, all of this obviously is), his approach aided in Betrayal's unique sound.

I love everything Martyr ever did, with the exception of a few of the new songs on Wickenstraut. Those were OK, but not great.

Re: What are your favorite BETRAYAL/MARTYR songs?
Fair enough. Don't get me wrong, I am a Betrayal fan. I just feel like a killer vocalist would have brought some dynamics to their sound. The songs tend to get a bit samey because of the vocals. I really loved their darker, creepier vibe. They had more edge lyrically than most of the other Christian thrash bands. I just think a singer with a more sinister, emotional voice would have suited the material better.Garrison4JC wrote:Betrayal was/is one of my favorites from that era. Sure, I've heard plenty of people say they don't like the vocals. I've just never been one of them, but you're not alone.

I have an issue with the vocals and a few other things too but they do some things really well and I really enjoy them overall.
I get so tired of this "vocals make-or-break-the-band" thing. Especially in thrash metal for crying out loud. It's not R&B.

When RbD came out, I thought it was one of the most creative and unpredictable things I'd ever heard. Of course I was like 15, but at least for me, it was awesome and ground-breaking. Awesome!

I pretty much feel the same way about them. For me it's not so much a "make-or-break" thing, but rather a "what could have been" scenario. I still enjoy them for what they are.Temple of Blood wrote:I have an issue with the vocals and a few other things too but they do some things really well and I really enjoy them overall.

Jeff was a monster bass player. Could have played with any band in the world at that time.

Cool picture! Have any more from that show? It was '93, btw ;-)Nyx74 wrote:Plead The Blood is still my favourite. Still have my PTB T-Shirt!
I believe Marcus was an occasional guest here @CMR.
Found a (foggy) pic of Jeff while being at their concert in Utrecht (God's Pleasure) back in 199x (forgot the exact year)

I'd like to know, too. I was in fairly regular contact for a while but it's been years ago now. We talked about doing one last album. He seemed very excited about it, but he had experienced some physical problems in his wrists and had surgery so I'm not quite sure what the outcome was.d@v!d wrote:Where is Marcus Colon these days? Do you ever read through a thread and then find a post that you really, totally agree with. . . and then realize that it was you 9 months ago?

I have to admit that I like "Fall on your face" on the Wickenstrout-album.
