Videos - Mortal's Picks
I was thinking back to when video rental stores were popular.
Sometimes you would see a few shelves where the store employees would have their own video picks.
That's what this thread is about.
These are my video picks.
You'll see a mix of music, TV, comedy...and more.
Feel free to watch and chat about anything you see here.
Please remember to rewind your videos after you watch them.
If you don't, there is a $1.00 rewind fee.
Pop some popcorn and enjoy the videos!

Re: Videos - Mortal's Picks
There isn't one single Video Store left in our town. All ka-put. The last of the locals shut down over the summer. I was in there on one of their final days. They still had VHS tapes and those were all $1 each, DVD's and BluRay $3. I overheard the owner, an older Asian gentleman, say that someone had broke into the store a few nights before and stole the cash register and some other things. I felt bad for them. They held out as long as they could. They were located right next to Winn Dixie and they have 3 Redbox Machines. But I think those are even used less and less. We watch all of our movies on Netflix now. Blockbuster packed up and left town 5 or 6 years ago. Movie Gallery had the best selection of 80's movies and I still rented there til the very end, even went in and bought some DVD's when they went under.
I remember the first Video Rental place I went into had only BETA tapes. This was the very early 80's.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming of Mortal's favorite picks.
Oh-- and I ALWAYS rewind.... At least I used too when I watched VHS.

^ Thanks for sharing
Yeah....Video rental stores were cool. I would literally scan every section in the store in search of cool videos. I found lots of good classics.
One would be very lucky to find a good video rental store these days.

You know what? No!.. You can take your stupid rewind fee and stuff it in the TR section for all I care. Don't try to bait me with popcorn, it ain't gonna work. I know you just want to fleece me with your little fees. I'm on to you... Don't push me cuz I'm close to the edge..Mortal wrote:I was thinking back to when video rental stores were popular.

Re: Videos - Mortal's Picks
We still have a video rental store here in town called Family Video. It's a chain of video rental stores that has 740 stores throughout the midwest. We also rent games there.

Does anyone remember the days where you could rent not only the VHS or Beta but also the player if you didn't own one? Those were the days! Pizza and videos on a Friday night with the family. It was always very difficult though to hook up that VCR to the TV with a coax cable when your fingers are greasy from the pizza!

I remember when they had VCRs for rent.
I used to do pizza and movie night too.
I also used to go for the 5 movies - 5 nights - $5 deal.
Family Video sounds cool. Do they rent VHS videos?
I always liked seeing plenty of VHS tapes at a video store. There are alot of good classics on VHS that never made it to DVD. I was kinda bummed when stores started switching to only DVDs.

Excuse me! You are the one trying to destroy me with popcorn and fees. How do you expect me to react? Take you sinister plans elsewhere.Mortal wrote:You don't sound very kind.

"Sir, perhaps you would enjoy some M&M's? They are only $5.00 for 2 bags when you rent 7 movies."

Yes I remember those days. Do you remember being able to buy a pirate satellite antenna in those same days? I had one. It failed after a couple of years. I took mine down the very next month all my neighbors got busted. Dodged the bullet.Adam wrote:We still have a video rental store here in town called Family Video. Tell me, what other relics of the 20th century continue to exist where you live? I sometimes see TV repair signs in old strip malls.
Do you know where I can get a popcorn shield?

Would you like that?
If you can't be kind in my store, take your business elsewhere.
Noone said you had to rent here!

Re: Videos - Mortal's Picks
The BBB said you are legit. I'm going to take advantage of that and set up my own pirate video shop on the sidewalk in front of you. No rewind fees and no popcorn. Just cheap pirated copies.
Here's my offering. It's an underrated classic that should have you feeling depressed in an hour and 16 minutes. It's kind of like the little rascals go to the dark side.

Re: Videos - Mortal's Picks
You're really mad over that $1.00 aren't you?
You wouldn't have to worry about it if it you would just rewind.
Blah blah blah. about the $1.00.
Blah blah blah about the popcorn.
You just don't want to hit that rewind button.

Oh, My Son - Lucky Dube
Oh, my son, I am sorry about what happened
Many years ago
Me and your mother had trouble all the time
We could not stay together any more
The last solution was getting divorced
I know what that means to your life
I can hear you crying
From a million miles away
Calling "Daddy" but there's no answer
But deep down in me I know the reason why
'Cause the blood that runs in me
Is the same as the blood in you
I mean the blood, the blood that runs in me
Is the same as the blood in you
Oh, my son, I'm sorry
Oh, my son, I'm sorry
Oh, my son, I'm sorry
I hear you crying
