Herfstdood's debut EP Lijdensweg was released over the weekend and it's really quite good!  This one surprised me a bit by how much I'm enjoying it.  Definitely check it out!

Herfstdood (formerly known as Your Spirit Calms My Soul) was founded by A. (Wapenveld, Jordskaelv, et al.) in 2021.

"Lijdensweg" was originally recorded in 2021 as a much more (atmospheric) black metal sounding album. A. wasn't happy with how the record turned out. He decided to fully re-record the album with a soundwise speaking much more shoegaze approach in mind in comparison to those earlier tracks. "Lijdensweg" was recorded in November and December 2023.

I prefer pre-black metal, or, at the very least, a-black metal. (Although the latter is just symbolic, of course).

I see Herfstdood meaning is "autumn death". Which could be spiritually symbolic of dying to self, shedding the leaves, ready for pruning. 
And the album title means "agony".

Funny enough, I find gloomy metal uplifting when down and grim soaring metal triumphant!

I was merely implicitly boasting about understanding the band name and song titles guys. And during the winter season I'm listening to plenty of gloomy atmospheric black metal so you don't have to worry about me getting a sugar overdose (although I did really like that new Freedom Call song...).

Anyway I'm curious if the lyrics of this band/project turn out to be Christian-themed.

Yeah he's cool, this topic is posted in the correct subforum. Only one song seemed to end on a nihilistic note but that songs was exactly in the middle.

'Eindigheid' (meaning finitude) explicitly mentions "may the Heavenly Father ease the pain, may He carry the grief and in drink-drenched(?? raises questions) black days be merciful towards the ill-fated".

The final songs ends with "when death calls, it is only another era than (or contrary to) suffering and perishing".
