At least with True Strength you can tell what the art is supposed to represent

I’ll give VR the drums, though.

The second half of the album is much better than the first IMO. Less pingy snare, more audible guitars, etc... if the production was better Shoot Me Again would easily be #1, but as it is I'll go Unnamed Feeling.
Worst Metallica album? Easily. Awful album? No, at least not to me. Could have been way better though.

It’s definitely their worst unless we count LuLu. That one is an irredeemable hunk of garbage.
But I’m good to not consider that a true Metallica album.

Yeah, the only good parts of LuLu are ironically good, moments that are fun to hear because they're inconically dumb, such as... well, you know the moment I'm referencing.Pethead wrote:It’s definitely their worst unless we count LuLu. That one is an irredeemable hunk of garbage.

Considering I choose band's scores by averaging out all the songs, including LuLu just wouldn't be fair. It would drag them down too far.

I listened to a short clip of one of the “songs” on Lulu once, I almost laughed at how weird it was. The vocals were just Lou Reed droning nonsensical phrases in a completely non-musical, non-rhythmic monotone

I think I’ve made it through one full song and part of another one. It’s frankly comical.

To anybody who’s listened to the whole thing, is it all like that? If so, why did anybody even think it was a good idea on the first place? Does anybody actually like that stuff? All i’ve ever heard is ridicule for the album

The chorus(?) of the View is the only part I directly remember, though I've heard at least one more part I think. Seth's first description is a perfect description.

Well you see, it's like this:
Metallica had recorded a bunch of instrumental demos. They decided to scrap them, dumped them in the trash, and moved on.
The Grampa character from the Simpsons happened upon these demos while in a fugue state, and decided to "help the boys out" by returning them.
Grampa Simpson couldn't help but notice that there were no vocals on these recordings.
Only one thing left to do, he thought.
So Gramps decided he'd dust off the ol' pipes and lay down some vocals.
With lyrics made up on the spot, along with phrases taken from various unrelated scraps of newspaper and ingredients from discarded pharmaceutical bottles.
He then bumped into Lars Ulrich (who had just come back from a rousing game of tennis on the moon with his good friend Linton Samuel Dawson) and explained what he had done.
Lars, still under the guidance of his good friend, decided the world needed the aural result of such a monumental meeting of the minds.

Mistress Dread is my favorite on that album. It's still 110% Grampa Simpson, but at least it's fast
You all have to listen to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and then you might appreciate that at the very least Lulu isn't that

It should have just been called "machine" Because it sure isn't metal and isn't even music... And I have very low standards to call something musicseth wrote:Bro what even is thatAirola wrote:seth wrote:To anybody who’s listened to the whole thing, is it all like that?
