Best guitar solos?

One and Tornado of Souls are probably my top 2 solos.

Epta Astera - Noche Oscura
Pink Floyd - High Hopes
Golden Resurrection - Moore Lord
(All three above aren’t the most fast or technical but just sound really beautiful)
Impellitteri - Kill the Beast (incredibly fast and technical)
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Megadeth - Hangar 18

It needs to be revised.  I didn't include Freebird and Highway Star.  There's tons of solos I've heard lately that would make the list too.

Overall good list though

This is a pretty tall order! Too many to include, and I don't know my music well enough to remember them all. I'm sure some of Impellitteri's and Narnia's will eventually make it on my list, but, again, I don't know their music well enough yet. But I'm including the ones on my list that I DO end up coming back to again and again, and will even skip straight through the song to the solos.

All time Favourite: 
1. Paul Gilbert at the very end of Neal Morse's Sola Scripture Track 1-The Door (Sub-song VI-Upon the Door). It moves me to tears; slow and building then blazingly fast yet so full of emotional tension & release.

2. John Petrucci - Dream Theater, Live in Budokan version of Hollow Years. Same vibe as solo above.
3. Ken Tamplin - Goin' Home
4. Megadeth - Hanger 18 (at least Marty's parts)
5. Steve Vai - Whispering a Prayer
6. Stryper - Lady

What a great list. Wow, you spent alot of time on that! I've got some long flights coming up on Saturday, I'm going to read through some of that. 

I almost put Ashes In Your Mouth on my list, but decided to put only one song from an artist on a list that only includes 5 or 6 items.

Love Summerland solo by Ty Tabor. Used love playing it too. I don't have a favorite though, just too many great solo's by great guitarists in all fields of music.

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Whitesnake - Wings Of The Storm

I love Tabor's solos. He had his own tone and style, and used scales in a unique way.

The solo in Coming Home by The Scorpions is probably my all time favorite solo. I'm a sucker for well placed pinch harmonics, you know, the cool high wailing sound often heard in metal. Coming Home has absolutely perfect use of that in the solo!


Another solo I enjoy a lot is in I Walk to My Own Song by Stratovarius. Doesn't have anything to do with pinch harmonics though, but it's solely about the melody.

The last solo that begins with the fast part of Megadeth's Bad Omen is another of my favorites.

Absolutely. It's the weirdest tone hard to describe with words, especially the early days. Love Ty.

Yeah, you have a point - thanks for checking it out. Brian May was underrepresented up until that point, so instead of including more May solos I just placed what I think is his best solo up very high to make room for other solos.

However,, it is one of the most prolific solos in rock history and takes the song to another level bringing it to a rousing conclusion.  The tone is amazing. It's unique. It jams. Its Brian May.

Queen is an odd band for me. They’re outrageously talented, but their music was very hit and miss in my view.

I'm honestly wondering if the version I've always heard of that song is a shortened one that cuts out this solo you're talking about? The version I know barely has a solo at all, just a really basic riff played several times with slight variation, probably about 20 seconds or so total, before the transition to We are the Champions

I like the Bohemian Rhapsody solo though

"Best" might not be the same as "favorites"...

One of the best ever IMO is Jake E. Lee on Ozzy's "Bark At The Moon."

A few favorites would be Ty Tabor on King's X "Pretend" and "Flies & Blue Skies."

I went with The Big Picture and Over My Head for King's X solos.

Flies & Blue Skies just missed the cut however.  Best solo on Dogman anyway.

Just listening Room of Mirrors from 72 Seasons, that solo is amazing

The solo from Wintersun's Winter Madness is still the best one I have heard to this day. Just absolutely enthralling from start to finish.
