Re: Favorite song on The Black Album?
Enter sandman is a great tune. I will always like it just as I will always like Smells like teen spirit and come as you are. I don't just hate stuff because it's everywhere you go and popular.
However I enjoy of wolf and man because I like everything about it and hear it less and think it is, perhaps, the most overlooked song on the album.

Re: Favorite song on The Black Album?
I'll rank all the songs.
1. Holier Than Thou
Metallica's most Christian song(yes more than Creeping Death) great message here and a great song.
2. Of Wolf And Man
I love the chorus of the song and Kirk's solo is amazing.
3. Wherever I May Roam
Banger track. Perfect. Great riff, great solo.
4. The God That Failed
Hidden gem. Amazing solo and riff. James sounds great vocally here.
5. The Unforgiven
The better of the two ballads on the album. 2nd best of the Unforgiven trilogy(2 is the best).
6. Sad But True
Would definitely be higher but I've heard it too many times at this point. VERY underrated solo though, arguably Kirk's best.
7. Don't Tread On Me
Great song. Basically the title track.
8. Enter Sandman
Great song and would be higher if it wasn't the most overplayed metal song of all time.
9. Nothing Else Matters
Same thing as Enter Sandman
I haven't really listened to Through The Never or The Struggle Within so I can't rank those. The lowest song of all of these out of ten is an 8.5. Amazing album, third favorite Metallica album behind Master Of Puppets and ...And Justice For All.

Holier than thou is about the hypocrisy of the music industry, not sure I'd call it Christian.

I'd argue that Leper Messiah (despite the blasphemous sounding title) is one of their most Christian songs

How is it Christian? You guys realize James hates God and this is how he digs at Him.

Leper Messiah is about televangelists.

But it's his worldview on Christianity in general. He lumps all Christians together.

Maybe, but I think that song is primarily targeting those we would agree are heretics.

Probably. I just know his views so it's hard to separate them.

Does he really hate God, or does he hate Christian Scientism?Black Rider wrote:How is it Christian? You guys realize James hates God and this is how he digs at Him.

He does not differentiate, it's why he has songs like The God That Failed.

Re: Favorite song on The Black Album?
That song seems less actually hateful toward God and more frustrated at his mom. I might just be biased because I don't want to think that one of my favorite musicians hates God, though.Black Rider wrote:He does not differentiate, it's why he has songs like The God That Failed.
