Dolly Parton - Rockstar
Is anyone planning on getting Dolly's new rock record? Yes, I said that right! A ROCK record! After being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, she decided to do a rock album. There are originals and a lot of cover tunes. There are 30 songs in all that Dolly has shared. For a lady in her 70s, she still looks great and sounds great! She also keeps turning heads with her music.
I am not a country fan at all and only own a Christmas album of hers. My dad loved her early years, and here I am buying the downloads of her latest in her older years! I guess everything is cyclical, huh?

I might get it, but 30 tracks is kind of intimidating.

Checked it out. Meh.
Every single song was slower/softer/worse than the original.
Also, what Blackrider said. Her voice is so very specifically a country/western voice.

Did you expect her to go full on metal with modern screaming?
I find it quite amazing that a 77 year old woman, known for her work in country music, would even attempt this! My hat is off to her, and I look forward to hearing this today. As for doing things slower and softer than the originals, I would imagine this is by design to help her fans get into different styles while still enjoying Dolly.
I am not a fan because she has done country, but she has a great voice to me. There is a sweetness to her voice that at least invites you to go deeper into the stories of her songs. There are not many singers who have that skill and have her spunk, too.

I like metal/rock because it is metal/rock.

Ya'll seriously disappoint me. A bunch of ya'll listen to Johnny Cash and no love for Dolly? And you wonder why we don't like Yankees!!! LOL
Re: Dolly Parton - Rockstar
Obviously, the solution is to have Dolly cover Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and Soundgarden, just like Johnny did!

I do like her song The Night the Lights went out in Georgia. And a couple of Tanya Tucker songs. That’s pretty much it though for female country artistsPethead wrote:Reba is great. That is all.

I like some Roseanne Cash here and there and a few songs from Mary Chapin Carpenter but I only listen to them when my wife has control of the music.

My wife despises country. She’d rather listen to death metal.

Not even close. I am not a country fan, but I will take Dolly over most country artists anytime.

She is covering Joan Jett, Heart, and even has a song with the lead singer of Judas Priest. I think that is every bit as ballsy as anything Cash covered.
