Too bad this doesn’t have discernible lyrics like the new Obituary. Music is killer but the vocal instrument unfortunately provides nothing but monotone noise.

I never understood the appeal of vocals that sound like someone in severe gastrointestinal distress. Which seems to be the standard in “brutal” death metal, based on the few short samples i’ve heard from the genre

At least the beastlike roar growls in a lot of extreme metal can sound imposing and add atmosphere. But this type just sounds like the vocalist has a terrible stomach virus, which is the opposite of imposing

I just listened to it on desktop computer speakers, and I don't see the problem with the vocals. I rather liked them. But then I like Roger Martinez' vox. And DJ's on Nonexistent. Maybe I'd change my mind after a whole album. But I'll wait until it comes out and see. Pethead, quit being so narrowminded.

DJ’s Nonexistent vocals are less like a stomach virus and more like when you have a bad sinus infection and you keep slurring your speech because you have taken enough NyQuil to kill a Clydesdale.

Agreed. I don’t even understand why sounding like a pig burping is considered “heavy” lol, there isn’t a heavy, imposing atmosphere on those types of songs, it just sounds laughable

That’s the best description I’ve heard about this vocal style, “unintentionally goofy.” The very thing they are trying so hard not to sound like, they totally sound like. It’s like playing one of the other instruments the same way throughout with no variation. I think everyone can agree that that would also sound goofy.
