What Are You Listening To Right Now [Christian]?

Vengeance Rising - Once Dead and Released Upon The Earth. Both are fantastic. I can‘t even decide between DC, OD and RutE which one I like best but HS is my favorite, at least today. I might change that opinion tho, upon blasting these in my car. Listened on headphones and on my stereo today. 

Amazing four album run. Bummer that Roger gace up on his faith.

I go back and forth on my favorite VR. It used to be HS, then it was RutE, but lately it’s been OD. I don’t think it’s ever been DC, but I do enjoy that one from time to time.

I reluctantly agree about DC not being the very best but listen to Countless Corpses, it‘s probably the song encapsulating the best of VR in one monster of a track. 

I found the album starting off with five relentless thrashers w/o break numbed me kind of down to fully appreciate the complexity of Countless Corpses, hence my suggestion to listen to that tune first.

Altho sounding really similar, I also do find some variation in the first five, but the album would have benefitted from a different tracklisting imho. Packing all the „interesting“ stuff on the second half is not the best strategy. I noticed the same on Murder by Pride, which starts off blazing and then mellows out drastically in the second half. I think this is why it doesn‘t have the same status as the other new era Stryper releases (well, that and the ridicolous cover art).

Also, Roger doesn‘t sound the same on all those five first tracks, sometimes he sounds more pissed, sometimes rather relaxed. That‘s when he reminds me of Mike Muir. Also, listen to the rant at the end of You Will Bow and tell me that‘s not Mike Muir.

Finally, a bit far fetched maybe, but these five first tracks blend together as one song. This has been critizised but I wonder if it was done on purpose. Listening to them in a row has a meditative effect, it‘s almost an ambiant type of guitar drone at times, similar to Burzum on Filosofem,if you get my point. I wonder if Roger did that on purpose to create this wall of sound. 

Anyway, try listening to DC from Countless Corpses or mix the first five tracks with the last four to see if that enhances your listening experience.

Some random War Of Ages records, all good and well.

Then the older White Cross albums (s/t, Hammer & Nail, Triumphant Return, High Gear - In The Kingdom is not on Spotify for some reason, and I didn't bother with the rest):

1. TR blows everything else out the water
2. s/t and Hammer & Nail are ok with a few hits and some filler
3. I have no love for High Gear

TR is probably my least favorite of the first 5, although I still love it.
