Magdallan "Big Bang" is awesome!
At various times we share about great music that we discovered on this forum. Well...my newest one is Magadallan's Big Bang!!
It is such a fresh, fun, energy-filled, unique, virtuoso album!
I've been a fan of Tamplin's albums for years, but had never bothered going back this far in his catalogue. I don't know how they pulled it off, but they took so many different genres and made them work. I'm not very knowledgeable on genres, but here's my take on some that show up in this album: heavy metal, bluegrass, psychedelic, blues. And it all works!
I love guitar solos, so there's obviously a ton of that here, but they are all fresh and inspired. He tries stuff that should be cheesy but it works! Also, there are some awesome bass riffs here and there.
I did a second take at the beginning of Cry Just a Little; I was sure there was a problem b/c it was the intro to "I'm Gonna Live Forever" from Soul Survivor! I also heard elements of other later songs in seed form here--one song had a riff that sounded eerily like the intro to Mystery Train.
Anywhooo, you can comment if you like. But this is more of a thankyou to all of you who have listened to way more music than I have and are sharing it with the rest of us noobies!
I THANK GOD FOR CHRISTIAN METAL!!!

I too love that album. We’re in the minority though. Most people think it’s way too polished.

I've tried a few times to get into Magdallan but aside from "Radio Bikini" their music doesn't strike my palette.
But I'm glad you found something you really like!

I remember getting the cassette of this at some point, but for some reason whenever I think of it the music that plays in my head is from Idle Cure's Inside Out.

I have mixed feelings about this album. There are four or five good songs only.
Favorite song is Radio Bikini, undoubtedly. It could have been on a Shout album easily.
I also enjoy Love to the Rescue and end of the Ages.
Least favorite track is Big Bang (seriously, what's going on with that song?)

I'm through my 2nd or 3rd listen, and I'm noticing more and more themes that made it into later songs. I'd say, for the most part, the latter songs are better. But these ones are unique and fun, and if you're a Tamplin fan like I am, it's cool to see his progression through the years.

I bought that album back in early 1992 then it first came out. I first thought it was a Shout album under a different name. It was recorded in 1990 and I think if I'm correct a lot of money was put into that album. I'm not sure how bur Ken convinced Intense Records (who is known for watching the cash flow into it's bands) to fork out major money. I think there was tension between the label and the band. John Stamos, who was friends with Lanny Cordola played on the album. Lanny appeared on Full House.
Unfortunately Lanny and Ken parted ways for the next couple of Magdallan albums. They changed the name to Magdalen and released Revolution Mind 1993, The Dirt 1994 and a compilation/anthology called End of the Age in 1999.

It’s like Shout on steroids, too overwhelming for me.

I remember seeing this album in the bookstores in the early 90’s. I just listened to it on YouTube. It has that Nuno Bettencourt/Extreme vibe with the funky parts and horns.
