JD Evans is awesome

Post by Follower of Jesus on Tue Oct 10, 2017 6:39 pm

I’ve been jamming Letter 7 again recently. I forget how brilliant this guy is. The songwriting and production on his Letter 7 albums are just flawless. The only thing that holds him back is the vocals. While I can enjoy the singers he’s had, I can’t help but think he needs one man to take him over the top: Ken Tamplin. Can you imagine if JD’s songwriting and guitar prowess were matched with Tamplin’s vocals, both lead and BGVs?! I hope Letter 7 returns with more records in the future, but man I wish he’d team up with Tamplin.

In any case, the records we have already are terrific. I think Follow The Light is probably my favorite. But, man, Trust is just stellar too. Salt of the Earth was decent but the next two records are leaps and bounds better.

Amazing guitarist!  I am blown away by his talent every time I listen to one the Letter 7 albums.

Interesting (and expensive) thread.  I only have Salt of the Earth and it didn't do much for me.  Give them another chance?

It depends on why you didn't like it much. If it was the 80's rock stylings or the vocals, then you probably won't get into their other records. But the production took significant leaps forward on the next two albums. If you like the style of the first record, I'd encourage you to check out some other songs from the other albums. Here's a couple for you:

The latest Letter 7 is head & shoulders above the rest.  I listen to it on Amazon Prime.

I enjoy Follow the Light best, the singer reminds me of Parra at times.

Thanks guys.  Yes, it's a combination of vocals and production for Salt of the Earth (just re-listened to confirm my thoughts).  Both are much improved on the two samples FoJ posted.  Thanks.

Unfortunately music money's a little tight right now but I'll have to add them to my want list.

I love Letter 7!  JD is an amazing player and songwriter!

I was proud to have him on my last Mission Of One album.  If I were still doing that style, I'd definitely try to get him on there again.  I wonder if he would do blues rock???
