It's great musically, but I can't stand those vocals. Very weak and strained.

Ooh, I agree, the music is interesting but those vocals are just awful....
Re: Manticora-Great speed/power metal
I thought that too at first but I loved the music and the vocals grew on me.

Believe me, I really tried. I even have 8 Deadly Sins on CD, but in this particular situation it only got worse for me

That's the album that got me into them. Oh well, only 20000 more bands to listen to.

This thread needs to be bumped up!
Years ago I bought 8 Deadly Sins blindly from an online store, trying to fill the requred amount of albums to have them on discount. I was really surprised by how good the album was! I didn't know this much thrash could be in a power metal album. It's sort of a power-speed-thrash hybrid I think. Pretty much the thrashiest and heaviest power metal I know. Or it's the most "power metal" a speed/thrash band can be.
Occasionally I checked out some individual songs from other albums on Youtube and liked what I heard. But only now I thought to buy some more Manticora albums.
I went to their website and ordered what was available there.
I got:
The Black Circus Part 2
To Kill to Live to Kill
To Live to Kill to Live
I've now listened The Black Circus 2 through and currently in the middle of To Kill to Live to Kill.
MAN this band is amazing!
I'd say they are the Dark Angel of power-thrash. I mean, it's hard to find any individual tracks that shine from the rest, but that's because the songs are constantly changing, nothing goes on for too long and the sense of melody is excellent. It's aggressive, it's dark, it's very melodic, it's very heavy, it's slow, it's very fast. There's not a boring moment to be found.
I'm straight up putting this band as my third favorite metal band of all time, right behind Tourniquet and Megadeth.
Perhaps I could compare this band to Blind Guardian and Iced Earth but heavier and thrashier, and with better melodies and a lot more melancholy.
Those who dislike the vocals, listen to this short instrumental track:

They really are almost their own style. Check out Black Circus Pt1, it's even better.

Maaaaaan... Nothing Lasts Forever from To Kill to Live to Kill is such a tearjerker I can barely see from the tears in my eyes...
The chorus in that song might be my favorite metal ballad chorus of all time.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to get the rest of the albums.
Black Rider, so Black Circus 1 is better than Black Circus 2? Hooo-boy I think I'll try to get that next.

I've run across them before... not sure why I haven't taken a deep dive.
I am now.
Getting Jag Panzer mates with Blind Guardian mates with Kuis vibes.
