(Warning, the cartoon video gets a little gruesome towards the end...)

Oh dang! Musically, it sounds pretty good. The last couple of albums were sorta hit-or-miss for me but if this is any indicator of what's to come (new album I assume?), then I think it'll be a good'un!

The video had some interesting biblical imagery... I'll be curious where they go with that.

Underwhelming!

I’m not surprised though…

Maiden has been moving progressively (no pun intended) away from Metal with every new release. The new song has a weird folk rock vibe.

I like it. Sure they've changed, gotten more progressive sounding since the reunion but it's still quality and this song is epic. Don't know where you get riverdance, get past the first minute and a half, which is kind of southern rockish, it's modern Maiden. I'm also curious where they go with the lyrics or is this a one off?

Hopefully we get some more speedy, shorter rockers on the album proper (even Book of Souls had Speed of Light and Death and Glory) and it's not all just long, proggy, songs.

Oh wow and Iron Maiden song under 10 minutes long! Laughing

I dug it for the most part. Does sound a little like Iron Maiden does southern rock/metal. Sound quality was a little muddy and the vocals seemed a little buried in the mix (but not horribly). Really interested to hear where they might be going with an album (additional tracks).
The Animation in the video looks like it would have been right at home in the first Heavy Metal movie.

Steve says “We chose to record at Guillaume Tell Studio in France again as the place has such a relaxed vibe. The setup there is perfect for our needs; the building used to be a cinema and has a really high ceiling so there’s a great acoustic sound. We recorded this album in the same way we did The Book Of Souls in that we’d write a song, rehearse it and then put it down together straight away while it was all fresh in our minds. There’s some very complex songs on this album which took a lot of hard work to get them exactly as we wanted them to sound, so the process was at times very challenging, but Kevin is great at capturing the essence of the band and I think it was worth the effort! I’m very proud of the result and can’t wait for fans to hear it.”

Bruce continues, “We’re all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more - so much for the best laid plans – or should that be ‘strategies’!? The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There’s also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised - in a good way, I hope!“

That main verse riff reminds me of Wrangle Jangle by Pound Hound (dug Pinnick's solo project).

All in all, there are no surprises here and it sounds what you'd expect from Maiden. Kind of like like Cannibal corpse or acdc, they deliver their sound because that's what their fans expect. And good for them and they.

I've listened to the new single a couple times now and while I do like it, I don't LOVE it. Their last two albums have been a bit more hit-or-miss for me than some of their previous output so we'll see. The long song lengths have me hopeful though. Smile

(That being said, Empire Of The Clouds didn't really do it for me.)

As for the artwork... meh. On its own, it's not bad but compared to the stuff Riggs made for them, it's pretty weak. Also, I feel like they're getting lazier with whatever next iteration Eddie becomes. He's always going through changes with some particular theme, but with the last couple, it's as if they said, "ok let's just make a generic voodoo or Samurai Eddie" without much creativity. But the real proof in this pudding is the music so let's see if they deliver!

I’ll get it. It’s Maiden. But I will say A Matter of Life and Death was the last album that really grabbed me, although the most recent two have songs that I like a lot.

Argh I shouldn't have ordered the CD from Walmart! My wife was making an order from them and needed a few extra bucks to get free shipping so we tacked on the new Maiden CD. But now the tracking # says it's not coming until Tuesday! Drat.

Regarding their other most recent albums, I totally agree with Pethead: AMOLAD >>> TFF and BOS

I have streamed their new album a few times and I like it...A LOT. Maybe one of the best albums of the year.

I first listen to a new to me album in the background. This double album has what I like in secular hard rock/metal. It contains very good music and vocals. I could care less for lyrical content in most secular music. I appreciate the softer moments too. A very cool 4 minute instrumental band jam in the middle of Death of the Celts.

Mr Harris is credited with co-writing all of the songs. Bruce is credited with co-writing three songs. It is evident that Bruce no longer has the voice of his youth but he still rocks!

Having said all of that, Maiden has never been a top 10 fave metal band to me. I remember when they released their first album. I didn't really appreciate their best and earliest 5 albums until about 15 years ago.

My copy FINALLY arrived today and I'm nearing finishing up my first listen of it.

My initial thoughts are that it is very good. No songs really jumped out at me as new personal favorites, but likewise there aren't any I dislike - it's just solid through and through. I'll have to give it a few more listens before I can say much more about it, but upon first listen, I like it!

The new album is actually sold as a double album due to it's total run time coming in at just under 82 minutes. A CD can hold 80 minutes. Any of the last 3 lengthy songs could be trimmed to make this double into a single.

Surely there will be expanded and Japanese import versions that add more but for now the new release could have been a couple minutes shorter or a whole lot longer. I have to wonder if it is a marketing scheme. I hope this doesn't set a precedent.
