I'll give this a listen when I can get sound! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............strangerhoncho wrote:Rob Walker and Wish For Eden were good for sure. But the greatest Christian grunge album that nobody heard was Torn--Solitude. Independent release that I reviewed for the Phantom Tollbooth back in the day. It's on the heavy rock side of grunge, but IMO he was a world-class rock singer and it's a shame he never did anything else. He could have ruled the radio airwaves.

It was a supergroup. Vocalist Mark Salomon and guitarist Jeff Bellew from The Crucified, bassist Dirk Lemmenes from Focused, drummer Jeremy Moffett from The Blamed on 1st album and drummer Sam West from Scaterd Few/Saviour Machine on the 2nd.Dustofyears wrote:I remember them from the day and if memory serves they had a member or some members from the crucified. I like grunge but the vast majority of emo (Bucket please, aside from the ever gorgeous Amy and band).

The mid discography of Scaterd Few (Jawboneofanass and Grandmother‘s Spaceship) come to mind. Not my favorite records. I much prefer Kill the Sarx (all time classic) and Omega No. 5.

Scattered few I have heard of but not listened too; interesting titles too. I'll check them out, thank Q.Raegoul wrote:The mid discography of Scaterd Few (Jawboneofanass and Grandmother‘s Spaceship) come to mind. Not my favorite records. Re: Grunge
I have been listening to some of the Christian grunge bands from the 90's for the past day or so.
I didn't appreciate them as much back then because we were saturated with grunge and it was getting old.
But in hindsight, some of these bands had a really good sound and could pull of some good tunes.
I have also discovered a few that I never paid attention to before - anyone ever hear of Green Olive Tree?
Also Johnny Q. Public, The Julianna Theory, Mercy Rain...these bands are better than I thought they'd be.

I remember liking what I heard from Johnny Q. Public back in the day. The one I was really into was Grammatrain.
Don’t think I’ve heard of Green Olive Tree.

Re: Grunge
Green Olive Tree was from Arkansas and apparently did a lot of youth rallies, missions benefits, etc. in the mid-south.
They were on an obscure label called Syntax Records so it's no wonder we never heard of them.
They're sort of a combination of grunge, punk, shoegaze, and indie rock.

Has anyone here heard Skillet's first album? It's primarily grunge.

Re: Grunge
Was Johnny Q grunge? They seemed more the sound of Days of the New or something. And Juliana Theory was emo.

Grammatrain, Johnny Q Public, and Skillet's first were my main grunge listens. I had a few others, but those were the main ones.

Johnny Q was more of a heavy alternative band and the sophomore album was really emo (aka it stinks).

The first Johnny Q. Public sounds sufficiently grunge to me....guess I'm just an easy grader.

I’m not sure I can even distinguish between grunge and heavy alternative. Unless it has to do with the presence of flannel.

Re: Grunge
Another really good Christian grunge record is Nailed - All Washed Up.
If you're into Alice In Chains and STP, this is a good one.
Haven't checked out anything they did after that, but will soon.

Re: Grunge
Johnny Q was bright, major key, and almost poppy whereas grunge was dark, morose almost (and usually) like something inspired by heroine.
