That's actually probably the best way to describe them now, as is Believer...

Re: New Teramaze song.
I was a bit disappointed in Are We Soldiers. I thought it was a step back from Her Halo and Esoteric Symbolism. Too many pop elements and keyboards, too much of Brett vocalizing with himself, and less elastic riffing and guitar solos from Dean Wells. I also miss the driving heaviness and dense, moody production of "Esoteric Symbolism." Plus, the production is a bit flat compared to the last two releases. That said, it is still Teramaze and that still counts for something in my book. Even though they seem to have completely ditched any Christian lyrics.
We'll see what their next one brings.

Re: New Teramaze song.
This latest album is actually really good, but you gotta stick with it. There are four really strong songs on here and the rest kinda breath out on you after awhile. They paint a rich tapestry and it takes many listens to catch onto it. M.O.N.S.T.E.R.S. is the first song that grabbed onto me and it's still my favorite, but the title track rocks as well.
Also wanted to drop a note that Tears To Dust was apparently remastered. I checked Dean's youtube page and he had the remastered tracks on there.
I don't know about you, but Teramaze has become one of my all-time favorite bands.

Re: New Teramaze song.
If he'd skip the rough vocals for the most part, I could really get into this.

Re: New Teramaze song.
I think it's very safe to say that this is not a Christian band anymore.
Prove me wrong.

This is not a Christian band any more.
Wish it were, but it hasn't been for awhile.

I liked their first three albums, but don't like their newer stuff.

I'd probably buy all their stuff if I truly got something from the lyrics. I like the style in general and think they do well with it.
I know the lyrics don't speak about faith so it's not a Christian band but as far as I knew Dean had always claimed Christianity and said he wrote the lyrics. I'm guessing we aren't saying he denied the faith but rather the lyrics don't reflect it, correct?

His FB page is full of profanity. Make of that what you will.

Re: New Teramaze song.
Just a boring secular band that produced one really good Megadeth/Skid Row inspired Christian album (Doxology) back in the day after being inspired by Tourniquet’s Christian lyrics.

Re: New Teramaze song.
More Dean Wells at the front with a new vid:
This reminds me of known guitar heroes who switched to vocals later on and this is how I would rate Dean on the 'guitarists who now sing' scale:
Best - Ritchie Kotzen
John Sykes
Really Good - Ty Tabor
Zakk Wylde
More than Adequate - Dean Wells
David Gilmour
Gets the job done - Paul Gilbert
Joe Perry
This why they used singers - Joe Satriani/Yngwie Malmsteen

More Dean Wells-led Teramaze. I guess he took over the keyboards too, which is too bad since the last guy was an awesome player.

Re: New Teramaze song.
I think Paul Gilbert is a better singer than Zakk Wylde. I'd say Steve Vai is better than Zakk Wylde too.
Re: New Teramaze song.
I like a lot of the songs that Paul makes with his vocals, but I just think he's sounds like a normal Joe when he sings. I probably put Zakk high because he has a large following, plus he shows range and I guess he's just a lot better than I thought he'd be.Temple of Blood wrote:I think Paul Gilbert is a better singer than Zakk Wylde. Didn't even know Vai sang on any songs. I know he had Townsend for awhile on vocals and Billy Sheehan handles vocals when they perform "Shy Boy" live. Never seen nor heard him sing though.
Anyway, back to more new Teramaze:

Re: New Teramaze song.
New album comes out Oct. 9 is the news flash for those interested.
There's more songs released on Dean's channel like this one:
That being said, I will not be getting this album. I really do not like the direction of moving away from heaviness in the overall sound and lack of driving riffs. And there is nothing metal about Dean's vocals even though he has a fine singing voice.

Re: New Teramaze song.
I agree. On that last album they were clearly moving to a more pop sound. I just don't think that style is where they excel.Superjuice wrote:

"Esoteric Symbolism" and "Her Halo" is where they did their best work - I especially like the dense, heavy production and driving riffs of "Esoteric." I like their earlier stuff too, but on these 2 albums they hit their musical peak IMO.

Re: New Teramaze song.
They had one peak (Doxology). Everything else is nap music. Isn’t there a secular music section here? If so, why is this thread here since they are no longer a Christian band?

This new one's a really good rocker, but, too bad, I'm still not getting the cd:

Re: New Teramaze song.
Their latest release is a cover of a Savage Garden song.
This was not on the "I Wonder" album, but just came out on Dec. 15.
About the "I Wonder" album, I ended up really liking it after all. It's lighter and more pop-prog, but overall it feels more organic than "We Are Soldiers." It will likely end up on my Top 10 for 2020 (when are we posting those by the way? I am more or less ready)
