Love Life remaster - any good? Empty Love Life remaster - any good?

Post by Follower of Jesus Sat Apr 20, 2019 10:44 pm

I have the original of this album and I've always enjoyed it. I'm interested in a remaster if it really improves the sound.

I am NOT an audiophile. I don't hear all the improvements that some people talk about with some of these remasters. But on a few occasions, it makes a big difference.

Is this remaster a substantial improvement, or an improvement that only audiophiles will really pick up?

Roxx won't (can't?) release things digitally, so before I spend $20 on a CD, I'd like to know it's worth it.

I am one of these people that it is hard for me to hear the difference in remasters, but the Love Life one, I could definitely hear the difference.  I think it made it sound less like a demo and sound like an actual recording. I compared the two and was very pleased.

I never owned an original so I may not be much help, but the vinyl version is really good quality, you can hear each instrument pretty well, the bass isn't buried in the mix and the vocals are pretty clean

I have the vinyl and CD. It does sound better. I compared the 3rd track Heart of Fire in my computer and there is a difference. between the 2 CD versions. I intend to sell the original if anyone is interested.

I absolutely LOVE the remaster of this one.  The overall volume was brought up.  You can hear the bass and bass drum more and they have a lot more power.  Where many remasters seem to forget about bringing up the EQ to keep the strength of the guitars, too, this one nails it.  The guitars have plenty of punch.  Larry's voice cuts through excellently as well.

There are five demo tracks on here.  Three were just repeats of songs already on the album and, for me at least, just wasted space.  The final two are songs you've never heard before.  They are decently recorded and the remaster makes them sound almost as polished as the songs on the album.  I usually buy the CD and rip it to MP3, so I just cut off those three songs.  Boom!  Now I have a great project that I will continue to listen to for another twenty years.

In my opinion, if you like this band, you will want this remaster.

I don’t have the original but I bought the vinyl and cd because I wanted it for my collection. The vinyl sounds great...good bass and guitars ... the booklet that comes with the cd is nicely laid out with readable lyrics. Overall, I’m happy with it and I would recommend getting it.

It's better than my own personal remaster. It has more clarity. You can hear more bass. You need this for the bonus tracks alone.

I have the original (well, actually, Pelata has my original right now...), but I am enticed by the two new demos and the remastering.

They did a good job remastering it overall. However, they really didn't know what to do with the guitar tone when it was recorded. It sounds better in the remastered mix, and they did a good job playing and writing the guitar parts... but you can't change how the entire guitar tone was botched as recorded. But it is still a great album.

I agree with grandeped. But I still like it. The two new bonus tracks, while only of demo quality, are good songs. I wonder why they weren’t recorded for the album.

I never owned the original... but I like this reissue for what it is...

I usually dont complain about releases sounding "dated"... this one is but I still dig it...
