Mass Shooting is Las Vegas

They are saying this is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, and the worst attack on U.S. soil since September 11.  So far the toll is at 58 dead and 515 injured after a gunman opened fire on a country music festival on the Strip from the Mandalay Bay hotel.

Details are still coming out, and the death / injury numbers may rise.  Please pray for all those injured, and for the loved ones of those who died.

New total. 59 deaths. 527 injured.

I was at a Jason Aldean concert 2 years ago. A little more paranoid than I should be to go to another country music concert this Friday...

Such a tragic nightmare. The days are getting worse and worse. I heard about this the other day (I'm sure everyone heard that either has cable or Internet) I have been and will continue to pray for the victims of this terrible shooting.

Agreed. This is just awful and I've been praying as well.

Be careful anyone if you read any news articles about this. Even some popular news sites with information have featured some pretty graphic pictures.

Seeing people holding each other, covered in blood while lying motionless on the ground.... my heart sank, and then I was filled with rage...

Yes, I've ran across things like this on the internet before. A lot of very disturbing imagery as well as incidents. Sort of like the Hampstead cover-up in the UK a few years ago, I'm still burning with anger about that one.


And about the music, no problem. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Playing the sword and using daggers for drum sticks was pretty sick. Only thing that I'd improve is the audio quality itself, other than that it's a great album \m/

Still no word on the shooter's motive, at least as far as I've seen.  Not sure if the guy was mentally ill or just plain evil, or a combination of both.  It seems he carefully planned and set up this attack though.

Its been speculated that he lost a considerable amount of money gambling shortly before the massacre.

But he did wire $100,000 to the Philippines the week before. A lot of this does not make sense.

Which is where his girlfriend was at during the shooting

Anyway this was incredibly heart breaking for me

It makes you think twice about going to large concerts, and having spent a lot of time in Vegas ever since I was born, its sad to see a place I know so well ravaged like this


This just adds on to what I have been going through lately, a school shooting happened here at a school in Spokane, I have friends who attend there, and then last week at my own school a kid committed suicide

The Facebook streams at a lower quality than the actual video. If you watched it on YouTube (OrationemOfficial) you'd get the "uncompressed" audio.

Luckily, no one was killed and a female teacher was rather brave to tackle the student who was armed.

Canada and the US have very similar gun laws, but the US has more spree killings. The variable seems to be volume. (there are almost 10 million registered civilian guns in Canada, whereas there are 270 million in the US)

Irregardless of how effective screening is, more guns means more chances someone unstable will use them for acts of crowd violence...

The sheriff in Vegas has stated that he feels that the shooter did not act alone.

Just to clarify a bit, Canada's gun laws are different.  Here is a short video that explains some of the differences.

Also it is illegal to carry guns in Canada too (save for a very select few groups of people), unlike many states in the US.

There are 33 states that, while they have individual carry permit laws, all participate in a program that makes it legal for you to carry in your home state as well as theirs if you have your own state's permit with you at all times.  Man, I love being in the USA!

They were saying on the news that he may have had some un-diagnosed mental illness.
Likewise, they found some of Paddock's "calculations".

He calculated the distance from his hotel to the concert venue, he calculated for wind, ALL to help maximize the death toll.
My opinion, that's a little too smart/aware to fall under the "unstable impulsive madman" category.

I didn't go after they moved the "rural tour" into the heart of the state capital.

Also, in my opinion, the attack was too elaborate and well planned to be the result of a mental illness. Believe it or not, only 3% of murders and mass shootings in the US are performed by people with a mental illness per year. If you include all homocides (self defense, murder, accidents and suicide) that percentage increases to only 4.5% per year in America. In fact, suicide takes up a total of 61% of all gun violence per year, the other majority is self defense, leaving gun murder all together killing 10 people per year in the US, with just over 320Million people being in the total number of the population in the US. I'd say we're not doing too bad considering how many people we have in the total number of the population.
