I still don't get the whole vinyl rebirth. I don't like the crackle of the needle on vinyl. I also have a small house and don't have room for records. I barely have room for CDs!
Re: Deliverance , Saint and The Hero vinyl announcement
I know some people don't get in to the vinyl thing but it is out selling CD's for me these days. Personally always been a fan of vinyl although I must admit it has increased even more with the resurgence currently going on. Good example the Deliverance vinyl will be sold out this month.

In 2016 vinyl sales were up 32 % and made $412 million. If played on a good player and it's a clean record with no visible scratches there is no crackle. I even wash off new records now before playing them. When done right it is a fun hobby. We don't even have a working CD player in the house any more (unless you count the computer).

What do you wash them with, my records seem to attract a lot of dust!!!

A Spin Clean, it does WONDERS...
https://spincleanrecordwasher.com/
Several times a year they have them on sale for 49.99 with free shipping. The regular price is a bit steep but I recommend it, it does an awesome job. If you don't want to buy one now try my old method of DIY cleaning (sorry, I shot in portrait mode):
Be sure to dry them with a micro fiber towel. When done I also hold them in front of a fan to speed up the drying process. Those cloths are cheap but make sure they are microfiber and wash them first with NO fabric softner or dryer sheets.

Here is a demo of the Spin Clean
Even records I cleaned with my DIY method sound better after going thru the Spin Clean but the DIY should be suffice. Also replace all of your inner sleeves with these anti static, anti scratch:

Thank you for all the info Mike may have to look into one of these, confused why I need to buy record sleeves surely the originals shouldn't damage the records?

I guess the paper ones are fine but they can leave fine scratches on them. I have some paper sleeves that are over 40 years old and they are fine. but I prefer the anti-scratch anti-static ones. The key is anti static but I am sure the paper ones are fine for the most part.

The sales may be up, but I still cannot believe that this is any more than a passing fad that will run its course. I don't know about all of you, but I don't have ROOM to start storing vinyl or a turntable, really.
Of course, I am almost out of room for CDs as well. I will probably make the jump to digital this year (when possible) and possibly do streaming more. Digital, to me, has a far cleaner sound. Vinyl always has that airy sound that you pick up from the contact of the needle while in motion. With time and repeat plays, that info on the vinyl will degrade as the needle digs in and makes the grooves even deeper causing a loss of signal. Also, it is impossible to really listen to that vinyl on the move which is where I listen to most of my music.

I think vinyl is as much about nostalgia as anything. I would be more into vinyl if I could afford it as much for the artwork as for the music.

Re: Deliverance , Saint and The Hero vinyl announcement
I dunno, I have some records that are 50 or 60 years old and they play just fine. The key is tracking force. The higher the force the more wear on the album. Mine tracks at 1.4 grams and i have yet to have one wear down. But I have the room for them and we enjoy it. The whole family likes when i play "records". Now, if you buy one of these "new" retro Crosley players, those will wear them down quick. They use ceramic cartridges which track heavier and mine is magnetic. Passing fad or not, all of the vinyl pressing plants in the US are behind schedule due to demand.alldatndensum wrote:MikeInFla wrote:In 2016 vinyl sales were up 32 % and made $412 million. Playing records on a cheap record player will wear out your records, the key is to buy a vinyl player and have the correct tracking force. Can't beat the sound of vinyl IMO but I do agree that digital is very convenient.
