What is your favorite Whitecross album?
Best Whitecross Album
I recently found myself getting back into Whitecross, having never really been a huge fan, I cant seem to stop listening to In The Kingdom and High Gear
Anyway what is your favorite Whitecross album?

Re: Best Whitecross Album
So, I voted In The Kingdom.
I got into them 4 years after their start...But, I do Love Triumphant Return. I got SheWhoMustBeObeyed (SWMBO) into WC during the ITK LP...And, we saw them, live, during the High Gear tour, which, we both LOVED!
Choices 3, 4 and 5 I can pretty much sing word for word.....This band was the precursor to me coming to CMR a decade later, to enjoy the company of others that find this era/style of music as wonderful as I do.

Re: Best Whitecross Album
I love what I have heard of their first 2, but since what I "inherited" includes everything after Hammer & Nail, I cant vote for the first 2
I really enjoy High Gear but it doesn't contain as many songs I go back to and play a lot, unlike on Triumphant Return and In The Kingdom.
Unveiled is below average for me, without Rex, the album just has a feeling that something is missing.
The two latest albums were not my thing since I just cant stand them or Guardian's era of grunge
So between Triumphant Return and In The Kingdom its quite the toss up, but for now I'm going to vote Triumphant Return, at this point I'm going off the fact that I just can not stand Whitecross's ballads/slower paced songs, and since Triumphant Return has less of said mentioned songs, Im voting for it

Re: Best Whitecross Album
I could have voted for most of them. I picked In the Kingdom. Whitecross is a weird band for me since every album has at least one amazing song and one terrible song.
I'll be surprised if any of the non-Rex albums get any votes. I like Unveiled a lot but it's not Whitecross.

Re: Best Whitecross Album
Triumphant Return is by far the best. The rockers on that one were absolutely stellar and showed this band really hitting its stride.
My next fave would be Nineteen Eighty Seven--the remake of the original. It just made those songs sound better to me.
Third for me would be In The Kingdom. While I do love Hammer & Nail, the production on it just seems a bit muddy to me.
I even like the Rex-less years. However, with that era, Whitecross never really found a sound that truly defined them again. Unveiled was a cool rock record, but without those big leads, just fell flat with fans. Equilibrium could have been awesome if they hadn't used so much acoustic guitar. Flytrap was great--just not from a former metal band. It wasn't what we wanted from Whitecross at all.

Hammer & Nail is my favorite, but I also really like Nineteen Eighty-Seven and Triumphant Return.
I do agree with Alldat that the production on H&N is poor, but it was the first album I got from the band and the songs still really "speak to me".

I picked the S/T for nostalgic reasons which would be followed by Hammer and Nail.

The first 4 albums a great. I still enjoy them though the drums on S/T & Hammer & Nail are a bit monotonous. High Gear never jived with me and I find Unveiled to be unbearable. I haven't listened to anything after that.

I take back what I said about Equilibrium and Flytrap
I forgot how great Faraway Places is!
I can tolerate a few songs here and there on those two

Thanks for the inspiration guys. I have Hammer and Nail and Triumphant Return only on tape, and I haven't heard them in forever. Just added the CD's to my Amazon wish list (for Santa to bring me of course).

Full Crucifixion is a favorite too.
Who is going to admit to picking Flytrap?

Re: Best Whitecross Album
Over all, their first 5 albums and 1987 are their best and I like The Hammer and the Nail, Triumphant Return and 1987 albums I like better. This was hard picking their best one. I went with Triumphant Return. Even though this had a couple of songs Down and Straight Through the Heart that were ok, all the other songs are great and the production is good too.

Re: Best Whitecross Album
Unlike many here and most of the critics, I hate In The Kingdom album. It simply isn't heavy enough for me. I purchased it on iTunes a couple of ears ago, listened to it a couple of times and I don't really know what happened to that album. I simply don't miss it.
The best for me is 1987, but also love the first three and enjoyed Flytrap. High gear is their only album I have never listened to (that's because it is In The Kingdom sucessor and I am afraid of getting disappointed again)

If you did not like In The Kingdom, then you are right to veer away from High Gear. While High Gear does have some great songs, it has some filler as well. I still like it myself, but it comes in last place for me when it comes to the Rex Carroll years.
Re: Best Whitecross Album
I will always love the debut, despite the production. Brings back such great memories, and there are some really good songs on this one (Who Will You Follow, Enough is Enough, Seein' is Believin', and the great first solo, etc.). It's still a regular listen for me.
