I uh... It took me a few seconds to figure out what "that sound" was 30 seconds in.
I'm sure quite a few of you don't understand the appeal regarding extreme metal vocals, which I prefer, but I'm completely baffled at the appeal for the super high super clean vocals.
I mean metal is powerful. Driven fast drums. Aggressive guitar. Pretty deep tones. ...and overall gritty sound. The back-of-the-throat female soprano style vocals from a dude with the aggressive, driven, deep and gritty is like adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to your pizza.
For me, this was a good listen, and viewing for tonight...

Evidently, you didn't stick around til the 3:15 mark when the vocals changed to extreme. Personally, I like both styles of vocals. When used together they can express different emotions within the same song and can be very powerful. While it's definitely true that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, I think it's a bit misguided to dismiss the appeal and/or the skill and talent involved in performing either one.

I never said they didn't have skill.
Maybe it would help to reiterate my analogy?
I like ice cream, just not on my pizza.

While you didn't say they have no skill, you did say you don't understand the appeal. Speaking only for myself, part of the appeal is the skill and talent it takes to sing like that.
Let me ask you this... what about a black metal band who uses an opera singer in their music. Isn't that still ice cream on the pizza?

Somewhere, somehow, I sensed the dirge of Maltese epic doom and I followed, finding myself here.
That's my favorite song off that album; so good!

SRSLY.
There was talk of them working on a new album like a year ago but since then I don't think I've heard anything... Albert! Where are you?

I can obviously see that it takes skill and talent for a 300 pound man to limbo under 3 foot... but that doesn't mean that its appealing to me.
I'm glad you commented again, it made me think more on this.
Its not the high voice - because if its "gremliny" like ACDC or Judas Priest, its cool.
Its not a clean voice, because I dig a TON of operatic metal.
....its a combination of SUPER high SUPER clean that I don't find appealing.
Regarding that in black metal, there's no true example - but one of my favorite bands, Fleshgod Apocalypse is symphonic death metal with occasional VERY high clean metal "singing". Occasional as in 4 sung sentences in the 50 minute album.
That's not a full scoop on my pizza.
If half the album was that vocal style, I wouldn't listen to it.

Drottnar - Stratum
First listen (picked up the vinyl at Nordic Fest). Seems a natural progression from Welterwerk so far.

Today's soundtrack is some classic Crimson Moonlight, and especially a song that will DESTROY your Saturday Morning!:
